I did it & all the applications and data were intact even after rooting. If you still want to be on the safer side then please backup ur phone using kies. Also, u can backup all ur applications and app data using software called Helium and it's free.

jeffrey, 05 Jun 2013Note 2 glass is so fragile and easily break. According to samsung techsupport, this is normal... moreIf you look at all the drop tests on the web you will see that the Note 2 is one of the strongest around.
Like any device, if you drop it onto a hard surface at the wrong angle there is a chance the screen will crack.

Note 2 glass is so fragile and easily break. According to samsung techsupport, this is normal due to the larger screen. If they know it's easily break, they should come with workaround instead of denying it's a product defect. I had use many brand of phone and this is first time I encountered broken glass - where the phone drop to ground at knee height and it has wallet wrapping it. I had samsung galaxy S2 and it survived numerous drops and the new note 2 only lasts for a single accident.
When it comes to repair, the cost of glass is half of price of new phone. What are samsung trying to sell to consumer? A smart phone or fragile glass?
Unless you have extra money to replace it every time you drop the phone, else avoid at all cost.

see device memory total space 10.36GB ... more4GB of the memory is taken by the system. and a portion of it is taken up by the file operating system. so if you have 10+ GB showing on the device that is the 16GB Note 2
