OS updates are optional, but many people get fixated on it. Google updates Android but Samsung (or any other phone maker) never promised that they will too. These are two different companies with their own plans and timetables. Unless there's a major bug or flaw in the previous OS, an update is just "bragging right". Your phone doesn't stop working when Google releases new Android version. When Samsung does upgrade the OS, it doesn't really change much because not all features of the new Android are carried over. OS-upgrade fever becomes a fixation that makes people forget the fun and productivity of owning a phone because they spend most of their time complaining about not getting the new Android. But there is HOPE... get a Nexus device or flash a custom ROM.
If Note 1/2/3 are phone-tablets ("phablets"), and was successful. Samsung is doing it again on the upper end of the spectrum. The Note Pro 12.2 is a laptop-tablet. Stick a keyboard-case on it for work, then ditch the keyboard after work. Just like in the phablet days, you sacrifice some convenience due to size, but you get a two-in-one product.
Actually its enormous size of 12.2 is what I love about, that display is just AMAZING !!!
