Galaxy S24's Always-On Display wallpaper not coming to older models

Samsung Android

Samsung announced the Galaxy S24 phones yesterday, which come with One UI 6.1 out of the box. The new interface lets you have your home screen wallpaper on the lock screen when the Always-On Display feature is turned on.

According to insiders who spoke to SamMobile, the feature will remain exclusive to the S24 series for now. Older Galaxy devices have less efficient displays so enabling the feature would impact the battery life too hard.

Always On Display was never a battery-friendly feature to begin with. Still, Samsung stated the panels on the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra are more power-efficient and so the damage done to battery life is acceptable.

The new feature deletes the background of the image that is on the home screen, keeping only the object in the foreground on the lock screen. That way, you can have your favorite person or character on display at all times.

Fun fact: the units sold of Samsung S Series increases every year since S21. It is not stupid strategy if it works.
