m86k, 08 Feb 2015Yeah, Galaxy S series has been pioneer on many features like this what people don't know, it's... moreWow. but how come no HTC phones? Also interested to know what you think of iphones.
AnonD-122903, 08 Feb 2015Note series is great than other smartphones.Obviously! (: after that S series ;)
Note series is great than other smartphones.
AnonD-123014, 08 Feb 2015Swiping my screen with my palm in front of others just to make a screenshot has enough to make... moreYeah, Galaxy S series has been pioneer on many features like this what people don't know, it's now only other manufacturers are adopting them (LG did an effort last year on G2 with knock code though).
I know i have made drooling quite a bunch of people too over the years with each new Galaxy S i bought.
-palm screenshot since S3 i think
-voice detection for photos since S3
-quick glance on S4 / Airwake on S5
-smart alerts (pickup vibration..) since S3 or S4 (forgot)
-vibration customisation per contact since S3
-sms tone customisation per contact since S3 (still not on stock android)
-turn down to mute since S2
-slide for call/sms since S1
-eye tracking (smart stay etc..) since S3
-complete dlna integration since S2
-blocking mode since S3 (Apple added it later as DND mode in some IOS version and now google integrated it partially in Lollipop)
-download booster since S5
-wireless transferts (BT / NFC / Wifi direct) without any additional-shady-non-working app (i know that because i had a Nexus 10 and i was surprised to see that you have to look for apps to do all basical stuff like that)
-one handed mode since S4 (well maybe that one was on LG G2 too in same time)
-Most complete defaut camera app since S1 (only lenovo supercam can match it now but it's too heavy)
-multi windows since S3
-zoomable video player since S3, screenshots from videos etc..
-etc..
And the list goes on, i would need to get back all my previous Galaxy S to make a complete one, but they have been a rich and enjoyable experience over the years.
Not talking as a "fanboy" (because i had / still own many phones in different brands) but all i recon is that Samsung brought the most to android industry, some from Apple, and Apple took some too. Google and others kept only integrating features afterwards.
To others, here are my SMARTphones (i skip non smartphones) i have/had to prevent useless comments :
Galaxy S1 to 5 / Alpha / Mega 6.3
LG G3 / Optimus P500
Lenovo S90 Sisley
Several Mediatek 6589/T phones (TCL / HDC / Star)
Chinese S4 mini Mediatek 6572 / Goophone i5
Sony Xperia Ray
Motorola Moto X 2013 / Defy+
Iphone 4 & 5S
Archos Diamond 45
Wiko Peax / Cink5
Maybe a few others but not important.
(i like mobile phones)
AnonD-1385, 07 Feb 2015Well said mate. Nothing beats built-in features and the S5 gives you so much out of this world... moreSwiping my screen with my palm in front of others just to make a screenshot has enough to make their jaws dropping.
AnonD-1385, 07 Feb 2015Well said mate. Nothing beats built-in features and the S5 gives you so much out of this world... moreYeah O-J bro, if Galaxy S series were the most sold every year, it's not due to pure android experience but because of whole package, what many don't get when bashing @ Samsung.
Thanks Brynn for the info,
just checked on mine, no update yet. I will check daily next week.
Do you see the return of blocking mode or silent mode or even smart stay feature in accessibility like was pointing a guy early?
Time to check what people are saying on S6 comments, hopefully they haven't started to downrate it like for S5.
Just had a 294.XMB (or there about ) stability update, it is downloading now..I went to check manually for software updates and it said update available.I am on proper Lollipop now not the polish ROM I installed earlier .This update could have been their a while because i always like to authorise stuff even apps to see what's going on.
Have not been on the forum for a while so other folk may already have got it.
S6 is not far now and it entered the daily hits chart now.
Anonymous, 07 Feb 2015It's weird that people talk about "bloatware" for Samsung and not for other brands. ... moreWell said mate. Nothing beats built-in features and the S5 gives you so much out of this world features out of the box that really and truly you don't really need to download anything from the appstore...but then there's the ability and luxury to download from the Android market if you feel like pushing things to the limit or if you crave for more apps. The S5 is said to be the best Android smartphone that money can buy and it's not a hype statement. I will continue enjoying my flashy super smartphone known as the Samsung Galaxy S5!

do i need to have a computer?
AnonD-236981, 03 Feb 2015Go to setting>>about device>>select software update>>check for updatesYou can use kies too.
i flashed the new update (PDA: BOA3) a few days ago and everytime i boot my phone (restart or turned off) i am experiencing a little lag, probably some apps are just starting up, but after a little while it runs buttery smooth and apps opens much faster compared to Android 4.4.2 also compared to the previous Android Lollipop build this ones much stable, before everytime i restart my phone i get an a message about the system not responding and it's long gone now... one thing i've noticed though, my battery seems to drain a bit faster now, i've read some reviews on the internet that with the first few days it'll go like that but once the system is well optimized you'll notice some battery improvements, and i hope that's true. over all the new build is good, i'll give it 8.5 out of 10.
Joe, 06 Feb 2015Had the S5 and the nexus 5 and you can clearly tell the S5 is a lot more laggy then the N5 and... moreIt's weird that people talk about "bloatware" for Samsung and not for other brands. I mean, i have a LG G3 with my S5, when there's an update then the reboot rehashing apps, despite the dozen of apps i have installed with defaut ones, it doesn't say more than 130 for S5. On my G3 with almost NO apps installed, i noticed today that it's saying 161 (and i have removed a few default ones)...
So guess which phone is more bloated, just saying.
Now about N5, i won't enter the eternal debate that "i ve seen my colleague's one lagging" (even he said it himself without asking him about speed when he updated to LP..).
All i can say is that, you put some empty rom (meaning vanilla rom) from XDA or GP edition on a S5 and you will see the phone skyrocketing your N5. Just think, be smart and be fair and compare apples to apples if you want to discuss.
Now on S5 like the precedent mate just said, it does MUCH more than any Nexus by DEFAULT out of the box. Won't enter the details, but if you need to come in to brag your N5, we don't see the point, keep your empty phone for yourself. I don't need to install shady apps/launchers to get touchwizz functions for my daily usage.
(I mean a simple "pickup-vibration" app is already crap from google play...). That's why i stick to Samsung phones.
Just my 2cents. Cheers
Joe, 06 Feb 2015Had the S5 and the nexus 5 and you can clearly tell the S5 is a lot more laggy then the N5 and... moreTo JOE:
But then the Nexus 5 doesn't have the superior features (gestures sensors and more) that Samsung has. My S5 runs fast and fine. Not laggy for me. Furthermore I enjoy having a Memory Card Slot as well as removable battery. It's a win win situation for me.
Had the S5 and the nexus 5 and you can clearly tell the S5 is a lot more laggy then the N5 and you can only blame samsung and their bloatware for that not android.
