In these aspects Sony delivered 2014 standards,this is strength,and you call z2 a z1 redesigned!! Funny so funny
I swear you never used any of them,thats why you know nothing about its display,you just watch videos, HTC one had one! Of the worst display I've ever seen,very very unpleasant and dull and cold colors,not worm colors like s4 and realistic colors as z,,I just saw an video that show m8 color calibration and it was still on very cold side,
Htc cannot build even one part of its smartphones,they have to buy all parts and that's why they have higher prices and less quality,please stop comparing it with major beast manufacturer like Sony.
If Sony and Samsung weren't there what other manufacturers(LOL)sorry not manufacturer, but part collecting companies like HTc could did,HTC's magic

HTC One comes with 4mp camera and Z1 has a 20 mp camera. So, Which camera has performed better here. Obviously, it's the HTC One. I know that HTC One and Z1 are last year flagship phones. But remember Z1 has the same 20.7 mp camera which has the Z2. Probably, things might be different in this year. We will able to know them in near future. Let me explain your logic. You meant that HTC M8 camera is not good because it has only 4 mp. So, how a 4 mp camera beat a 20 mp camera here? That's simply because of the HTC magic. They don't concern the mp amount of the camera. They simply focusing on quality of the camera.
So, your logic is invalid here.
How can you say Xperia Z2 has a better display than HTC M8? It's might be, because Sony is a huge TV manufacturer. So, they can apply the same technology to their phones. But their is no clear winner in display wise.
Finally you are saying that HTC M8 has small software features. At least HTC have come up with new ideas. Let's guess they are small features. So, can you kindly explain me what are the innovative feature that Z2 has with compared to the Z1.
You have no ideas about M8. You are just a beloved Sony fan and you are thinking that Sony is the best manufacturer without any valid reason.

also if you're gonna base it on statistic here. htc one 2013 and xperia Z1 has identical score 8.4 basce on design features and performance, so even if htc one won the best smartphone award it's not surprising as they have close voting results, but this time it is different Z2 has more votes.
=if you are gonna ask me which is more trustworthy? votes or awards? i will say votes, because votes resemble the people's opinion. while awards can change every year, just like last 2012 samsung won the best mobile award, 2013 it's htc. so you see award is not consistent you'll never know sony might grab the award for 2014. so as i said for now we can only rely on people's vote and opinion until the awarding comes.
past is past and we must look forward for the future.

Lets me explain it's n... more I say again,every thing you wrote are small software features,,at the end what determine a good camera is its quality,in camcoder too,display,ram,battery,water proof,no one sacrifice a much better choice in terms of hardware for a few small app,if you like this features,your beloved m8 is no much for s5,,so why. people started turn back from s5,certainly design and better hardware and build quality are more valuable for people,what ever your m8 camera have its still 4mp,means no zoom,no good quality no VALUE,you wanna store your memories in 4mp,,very pathetic.

One of the most important thing to consider when buyi... morealso to add on what BATTERY said. when the battery on Z2 and m8 are damaged it can be replaced all you just need to do is take it to their respective service center and they are the one who will replace it if it needs to be replaced. the description of non-removable battery is just for customers, we can't remove it but in reality we can as long as you are technically knowledgeable. if you had problem with the battery then take it to repair center they can replace it for you.

One advise I can give to you, don't just evaluate phone just looking at the votes. Who knows those voters actually know anythings about phones.
Last year HTC One has won
* Best design award.
* Global Mobile Awards(GMC) Best smartphone award.
So, which one is more trustworthy? Votes or awards from independent parties.
I'm exactly sure HTC One will success over Xperia Z2. Because, Z2 is just a redesign of Z1.

also i want to point out base on user ratings here on gsm arena your m8 is only around 8.4 design 8.2 features 8.4 performance. against the 9.1 9.1 9.2 of sony xperia Z2 which means there are really more people here that wants or beleives that the z2 is their favorite than m8

2 UFocus - You can focus a photo even after taking a photo.
3 Dot view Case.
4 3D Dimension of the photo.
5 Copy and paste a subject in a photo.
6 Totally new gestures and motion pickups, which means; you don't need to press the power button to wake up the display. You can do your simple tasks just motions.
7 New Zoe camera features.
8 Duo Camera.
I can't explain every thing here, just watch these videos. I know those features are not in Xperia Z2.
