The Galaxy S6 Active has been the object of various rumors for quite some time now. The alleged devices has now been spotted on numerous occasions - in press images and live photos. It's specs have also leaked through the cracks, so, at this point, we can be fairly certain that it is going to arrive, sooner or later.
All we really need now is some kind of confirmation from Samsung and today, one such item did, in fact, pop-up. The rugged version of Samsung's flagship appeared in a list of devices, as part of the Samsung Plus program. The platform in question is a meant to be a community for loyal Samsung fans, set up by the company itself, as well as a means of distributing special offers and offering benefits to the most devoted users.
The table, in which the S6 active was spotted and then quickly removed is meant to explain the point-based system of the Plus program. In it each device is listed along with its release date and point value, depending on how long you have owned it, before registering. The main point here is that the Galaxy S6 Active was, indeed, on the list, placed between the Galaxy S6 and the S6 edge. Interestingly enough, it was accompanied by a release date, like the rest of the phones, namely April 10.
We can safely say that the deadline was milled on the S6 Active, but the fact that there is a cited date, does add a little bit more certainty that the device will see the light of day. It also leaves room for some interesting speculation. As it happens, the S6 and S6 edge were, in fact announced on April 10 and the S6 Active could have been planned to come out alongside the flagships. This decision could have been reconsidered because of the enormous interest for the S flagships.
This, however, isn't very likely. The whole listing was probably a slip-up and the values were duplicated from the S6 row. Historical data shows that Samsung's Active versions usually come out a few months later, around June or July, so, we can only expect to see similar timing with the S6 Active.
Just to remind you, as far as we currently know, the Galaxy S6 Active will be almost identical to the S6 flagship in terms of hardware. It will feature the same 14nm Exynos 7420 SoC, 5.1” QHD Super AMOLED display, 16MP main camera, and 5MP front-facing unit. However, besides the durable exterior, it will also come with a larger 3,500mAh battery and a microSD card slot, something a lot of Samsung fans have been missing.
As far as pricing and availability goes, we don't really have much to go by. We can only assume that the S6 Active will arrive on AT&T in the US first, but nothing is official yet.
I hope it will have removable battery. And SD card slot.
Patiently awaiting the arrival of the Galaxy6 Active !
How does it equal an iPhone when they look different everywhere except the bottom. And that's mostly from things apple copied?
