Hephaestus8, 03 Apr 2017It could be part of their new 8 steps battery safety check. This is purely my opinion. Dont ge... moreHonest approach, but i think that yoy are missing the point here. Yes the battery capacity is related to size and weight, but the main culprit is thickness. Apple can afford a small battery, because their OS is locked and do not have multitasking, so their phones consumes in an optimized matter, this allows them to have smaller battery capacity and they translated that to thinner body. Unfortunately whatever Apple does, right or wrong becomes the trend everybody must follow and so did Samsung, they reduced battery capacity in order to reach the iphones 7mm thickness. They invented a lot of excuses to cover up for the resulting loss of battery performance and it kind of worked for women, who care more of the looks and prestige, rather than practicality, the male users though backfired and hence the S6 had the worst sales of the series, despite the all new marvelous look. With S7 edge, they hit the sweet spot, around 8mm feels, looks and is premium enough and can host a big enough battery to make the day, even for power users. Then the bezel war begun, which is esp important as the sizes have grown so much and the secret here lies at maintaining the 7,2cm wideness, so that it can be operated by one hand and reduce lateral sides to minimum and upper bezel as much as you can, this leaves even less room for the battery, yes the added height helps, a lot, but it barely compensates for the smaller overall space the minimum bezels demand. And after the Note 7 fiasko, they decided to let extra free space for the battery to breathe, so they couldnt get a bigger battery. The onky solution was to add 0.2 extra mm os thickness, then they could easily fit an extra 200-300mah on the S8 and S8+ and we wouldnt complain, but their obsession of having Apple like thickness, took the better of them and this is the reason why i wont downgrade from the S7 edge to S8...

guys lets step aside from salesman who are trying to make s8 look like not a good upgrade or lack behind competition we are the consumer should appreciate what samsung brings to technology and how a great design they did and they and their contribution to make better phones and more complete phone ..
upgrade from s7
beautiful design (i think the best i saw till now ) and better screen to body ratio 83% the best right now and they make it practical easy to hold (not like xiaomi mi mix)
best chepst till now no company uses snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895
same camera but still one of the best
samsung dex ,samsung bixby maybe no one will use it but still an option
and it almost a complete android device in 2017
so if you can't aford it still there another options like samsung s7 or another company what ever you like but dont say bad not true things because you hate samsung or because you are fan of other company .

[deleted post]it will easily make you a full 1 day use without charging your phone even if you are uses your phone heavily .don't worry about battery
Joselius, 03 Apr 2017Enjoy your poor ips display. I dont even care. Poor IPS display that covers 138% sRGB. I highly doubt the S8 even covers 120% lol
DCI-P3 > Adobe RGB any day

Don't tell me the reason is because the... moreyeah but consumer can have external power bank and want a slimier phone so with new chipset you will not need to charge your battery even if you are power user for 1 day and thats enough for most users

This is purely my opinion. Dont get triggered or anything. They could had put bigger one like in the Note7. Note7 had 3500mah battery in a body just 5mm taller than S8 and it exploded. It was designed aggresively by Samsung.
I noticed they put 4000mah battery on Galaxy A9 2016 and C9 Pro. Both are over 161mm tall. S8 is only 148mm tall. So, you can pretty much imagine the battery limit size relative to its body size - for Samsung at least. Oneplus 3 which is slightly bigger than S8 also sport a 3000mah battery too. Though, I find it odd how Oneplus update the Oneplus 3T with 3400mah battery without increasing the weight of the phone. LG G6 relatively the same size as S8 have 3300mah battery. 2800mah in LG G5 saved by its removability. We can continue to argue battery size with the XZ Premium which is bigger than Oneplus 3T but with mere 3230mah battery. To be honest, major brand rarely or never had any flagship with over 4000mah battery.
So, in the end there is no right answer with battery size. Whatever the reason, however they did it, it simply their decision. We all can say they could had done better but seriously, what do we know about manufacturing good battery. Its not like you or me could make a better smartphone with gigantic battery to satisfied everyone.
It looks like the camera is identical to the Samsung S7. Also does not support 4k60fps and stabilize video at 60fps above FULLHD ... pity.
Why S8 downgrade the battery life to merely 3.000 mAh? Don't tell me the reason is because the chip is more efficient. Consumers will always love to have a bigger battery and boost the usage time evenmore
S series mistake still the same. Display will colour change cpu suddenly overheat. Battery after use sometime will drop very fast. I am already going to give up
Still lots of questions:
Will the Galileo gnss work in Europe with the new exynos?
Does the new display have the improved RGB format that was rumored to get?
The HDR is just HDR 10, like the G6, or HDR 1000?
Will the S8 catch the make or break 75h battery performance landmark?
Is the MHL support locked again, or not? Since it has dex integration.
