You do NOT need to make a factory reset of the phone each time you get an upgrade ! It is a myth...you think Samsung would let people upgrade their phone if it was messing it up ? But if it makes you happy...I suppose you reinstall Windows on your PC every week when you get an update...ah ah ah.

When you now download an app from anywhere other than the play store you should now see a pop up and you will then have to grant the app permission. Not tried myself but this is how I understand it to work now.
Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Ta

Ya I'm leaning towards the pixel because of those reasons. But damn the s8 design is pretty amazing! I wish the pixel had expandable storage and a headphone jack though.. but not a deal breaker.
Nivk, 17 Mar 2018Anybody getting monthly security patch for s8. I usually get them the month after so for march i'll get it in aprill, i'm already on february with oreo. Until i updated to oreo i was on november so nothing strange here and i guess in a couple of months they will switch to quarterly updates if they haven't already and that's why no one is receiving them.
sNightwing17, 16 Mar 2018I will purchase this phone in a few days :)Had the S8 Plus since launch and its been a sheer joy to use, never caused me a problem, not one little bit, delighted, absolutely delighted.
I've batterered this thing in the old Screen On Time department each and every day. The poor thing's been charged way more times than I've had it days, i'd say a rough top of my head guess would say thats well, well over 450 times I've stuck the phone on fast charge, battery still holding up well with no noticeable decline in performance when using day to day. Well chuffed :D
Oreo update been really smooth. Phone feels good, responsive and fairly snappy to me. No factory reset needed. stuff that! just hit 'Clear Cache Partician' n been fine. .... just as good as ever.
I would be happy to own the phone for another couple of years, wouldn't be a problem, will still.be good then. I probably won't though but I will be really picky now about my next phone. Wont dive right in, The bar has been raised. The phone sets a high standard ... and at the price you can pick the S8's up for now!! ...... I say great choice.
Hope you enjoy the phone every bit as much as I have :)
* I very rarely let phones charge to fall below 30% and very, very rarely leave charger plugged in beyond 100%, more often than not I stop charging at 97%-99%. I also tend to do little top up charges too, say 30% here and there sometimes.
So it's been a week since I finally bothered myself to do an upgrade to Oreo.
It was a painful proces - to download upgrade, then upload everything you have on various clouds as backup, namley Samsung Cloud, Google Photos... and then Finally install that upgrade. And once I managed to do that - factory reset the phone, and at the end REINSTALL ALL THE APPS. It even got me a bit worried since my phone got bit heated so I went outside (where it's freezing temperature) and it helped. And then the bother with logging in the apps again and some settings...
But at the end - it's worth it. It looks better, feels more smooth, and battery life has improved. Also, so far I havent ran into a single issue after upgrade. And new features are handy too.

Pixel 2 or Samsung s8? Going travelling and getting into landscape photography/video making with a gimbal. Can get either for about the same price. I'm coming from an iPhone. Any opinions?
Anyone having problems with Secure Folder and the Oreo update?
I doesnt work with my fingerprint.
alienufoweird, 15 Mar 2018Well the a5 has the same identical battery inside but a weaker processor so it's only natural ... moreI do changing the resolution to the lowest one. But still cant beat my a5 battery. But u were right, its maybe due to the fast processor that consume more battery. So thanks for ur info :) afterall im happy with my s8, such great upgrade from a5. About battery life i think its not a big deal. Its worthed with its performance :D
Megenz, 14 Mar 2018I've been a week using s8. So far im satisfied with this phone. Great display, superb camera, ... moreWell the a5 has the same identical battery inside but a weaker processor so it's only natural that it lasts longer but it also does less and is slower so your giving up battery life for speed and raw power plus the camera and other features. A 250€ device will always fare better in battery life than a 500€ one but it will also be slower and have worse hardware in most cases like the camera and screen quality. KEEP IN MIND that the S8 has a 2K screen (30% better quality and resolution) while the A5 is a 1080p device, i think if you change your S8 screen quality to 1080p you will get approximately the same battery life.
Anonymous, 15 Mar 2018Samsung 8 or Huawei mate 10 ? for all around performance pls help..tnx NOTE 8 or SAMSUNG S8 NO DOUBT. If you can afford the S9 then EVEN BETTER. Although the Mate 10 looks better on paper i can assure you the quality between the 2 devices (S8 and MATE 10) is pretty substantial staring from the water resistance and hdr10 but the camera quality is higher on the samsung S8 or Note 8 than on the Mate 10 because of the lenses and overall software regardless of the megapixel difference. If you can afford the S9 get that since it's definitely better but if not then the S8 or Note 8 is a better choice than the MATE.

After the Oreo update this phone works even smoother. I had this phone for almost 3 months and I'm really happy with it. Not even one problem has occurred and I hope I will keep it for 4-5 years from now. It's quite fragile and I recommend a good case though. I got a led case and it's good for me.
I got the oreo update few days ago (Hungary). at the moment it SEEMS the battery consumptions is improved and the notification panel is also better, however they took away few useful features:
- the home icons have frame, and i cannot turn it off (i turned it off, but nothing happened and yes i tried to turn it off and on again)
- I cannot turn off the unnecessary icons in the status bar (like alarm, optimized performance)
- i cannot just click on the HDR mode to turn it off or set auto, i have to do it in the menu...
i hope they will fix these soon.
