Hi Guys
Just thought I'd update you all after having heating and battery drain issues since the April 2020 software update.
1. I cleared the phone cache - it didn't seem to help.
2. I did a reset - it didn't help.
3 I then switched the phone to safe mode and the phone went cool and battery drain was minimal! So I figured it's 1 of the apps which somehow was doing this. I still do not know which app/s this was because I pretty much have the same apps installed again.
So what I did after that back going back to normal mode, was uninstall all the non proprietary apps from the phone. Remember to clear cache for each app before you uninstall it.
Restart your phone, and install only the apps you require, a few at a time and check how the phone performs. If it starts heating, then you will be able to figure out which app it is.
This was a most frustrating exercise but I'm happy to have the phone back to working well. I get standby time of up to 14 hours with a few hours on screen time usage of the usual. I also have mail syncing every 15 min in the background.
So Good Luck!

Charliesuu, 10 May 2020can someone please tell me how many hours can ur samsung galaxy s8 will hold up to this day? i... moreVery hard to say how long your battery will last as it depends how you use the phone and what the signal strengh is in your area and whether you use a lot of mobile data, screen brightness setting, playing games, videos or use wifi etc i know that's not the answer you are looking for but it's an honest answer.
This may help

Another thing to consider is that if regular updates are important to you then the S8's have now been moved to Quarterly Security Updates from monthly updates and will not see any updates to the OS, features etc
I know this probably all sounds very negative but its important that you consider everything before you purchase and weigh up the pros and cons. IMO the S8 is still a decent phone overall for the price it's on offer for right now but as I've said there are other things to consider.
can someone please tell me how many hours can ur samsung galaxy s8 will hold up to this day? i am curious if i am going to buy it with its cheap price

S8 got moved to quarterly security update.
I have this phone for almost 2 years (since Sep 2018)
+ Camera is nice. I wouldn't change for a mid-ranger with multiple cameras.
+ Screen is nice and shiny. I've been using without a screen protector for a year and no disturbing scratches. I can spot very light scratches under light coming from a certain angle.
+ Processor is still going strong. I still have no problem regarding its processing power. However I must say that I don't play games.
I switched my iPhone SE because I wanted a decent camera and a screen at a reasonable price back in 2018. And S8 delivered exactly what I needed. Magnificent front and back cameras, gorgeous AMOLED screen, faster LTE connection.
But now things have changed. First the battery. I can still get 5 hrs screen time but stand-by usage increased without any doubt. I have to charge daily, even if the screen time is at 2 hrs. I'm not a heavy user; only communication needs and some browsing. Phone gets hot quite easily. I believe these two conditions are connected somehow.
Even though I've been using the device with almost identical apps installed, the phone has become sluggish. It stutters on screen animations and at certain tasks like switching to the task manager or jumping to the home screen.
I believe this phone was the most balanced design of Samsung in recent years, and I had a happy two years with this device. But right now, I wouldn't recommend if you're looking for a new device at a low price point. It's good to keep if you already have one, but it's too late to get a new one.

Hi there. I am having the same issue. It is so frustrating because before that the phone was working like a charm.. Now I'm getting half the time. Tried reset. No difference. Hope the fix it soon.
Hi. After the 1 April 2020 security software update, my battery started draining like there's no tomorrow and gets warm with normal usage. I get 60% of usage compared to before. I did a factory reset as well - and you know what a task that is.. And still no difference.
It was running really well before that.
So I would urge you not to do the last update. It will mess up your phone really badly.
