James.D, 20 Jan 2022Yes... but I would recommend a Surface tablet instead for that purpose.android 12 works fine on all my apps including several that are astronomy, drone, and music performance apps.
I have owned 4 Samsung tablets and phones over many ears. My old Galaxy Tab (12" model) was getting pretty old and needed more storage space so decided to get a new S7+. I am a performing musician and also an astronomer. I use an app (Mobile Sheets Pro) that has all my music charts (about 600 tunes). I wanted a display that could closely match the real paper music and the new tablet matches what my old Galaxy Tab could do....but with much faster operation. I also run high end astronomical telescopes from my tablets using Sky Safar Pro. I did update my operating system to Android 12. I have not run into ANY issues running any of my many apps. I also am a licensed FAA drone pilot. Previously I used a small Samsung cell phone to run the DJI Fly app plus all the other drone apps. That small screen was difficult to use in real world conditions as well as a dimmer display. The new S7+ tab runs flawlesssly with the latest DJI apps and the screen is very bright and easily used in sunlight. And of course the big screen is so much easier to use and the screen is an amazing piece of tech.
I like the S pen for many apps. I never had one before and couldn't see the point. But with the new app features accessible with the S pen it has now become a great tool. In particular i is wonderful for use with the Mobile Sheets music program as it allows a lot of additions on the music, and choice of handwriting or nice text on the music.
If you get this tablet be prepared to spend a lot of time customizing it to take advantage of all the new features. The optional keyboard and cover is excellent although on the pricy side. I love it as it has great tactile feedback, magnetic connect that can be done blindfolded....and has a nice touch pad. the clever fold out support that allows the screen to sit at any angle is wonderful! To me the only negative is the lack of a headphone jack. I do have a wireless set of earpods but as a musician I wanted to use my high end studio headphones. I found a very good blue tooth receiver so now can use those phones.
The one thing I probably won't use at least at this point is the Dex feature although it would be a huge advantage for those that want to use the tablet as a desk top computer interface. I found that the default Dex options ended to get in the way for normal use so I turned it off until needed...if ever.
The 7+ screen gives a spectacular image and the processor is lightning fast. I will be using the ability to use it as a second screen to my regular computer when I run Photo Shop.
Lastly.....the upgrades to both the Blue Tooth and wireless to the latest versions makes a very opticeable upgrade. Where my cell phones and previous tablets would loose the Blue Tooth connection at around 20' or less.....the new version goes an extremely long distance. I have run it about 45' away from the headphones in my basemet to the tablet one floor above and worked with no drop outs...that is impressive. I still haven't found the limit. Wireless is also much more stable at long distances from the transmitter. I had to use a range extender with my old phones and tablets.....but not needed with the S7+
The big battery is indeed a huge step up....I have streamed 12 hours of videos before needing a charge.
Finally the 4 AKG speakers are really good and loud. They can also create a synthesized surround sound effect if your run movies with surround sound embedded. I was quite impressed with that trick. One funny thing is that when holding the tablet and music is playing, you will feel buzzing in your hands when placed over the speakers....almost like you are getting a static clectricity charge ;-)
My recommendation....besides the tablet get the keyboard/cover....it is really that good and worth the price. Is the 7+ worth the extra bucks over the 7? You get a better bigger screen, great implementation of the S Pen features finally (always thought it wasn't quite there on previous S pen versions. If you get the keyboard/cover it also has a neat storage compartment for the S pen. If you leave the S pen sitting on a desk and walk away with the tablet it will issue a warning that you left the pen behind. Some early reviews mentioned the S pen nib tended to be delicate and wore out quickly. I haven't found that to be the case so perhaps they upgraded that nib material. This is also the first stylus of this type that felt just like a real pencil or pen.
Alouis, 17 Feb 2022Should i get myself a Tab S7+ or Tab S8? Anyone could give me some advice please 🙂 S7+ For sure, this one comes with an IPS/OLED screen whereas the Tab S8 has like a TFT display which is absolute garbage.
