i used this dumb phone and i will not try samsung never again . after useing for one month i feel nokia gave S60 OS for samsung as a donation because its seems as a very primitive without known symbian S60 functions shown in nokia N series phones . why?
what the solutions with the following in this phone :
1 - for voice services they used one of most bad and dumb application ( voicesignal ) if this phone not contain voice services it will be better than haveing voicesignal .
2- non changable attaching for two keys ( web , navigation )
3- fast sleep even though running call ,and non setting changable
4 - weak bluetooth performance especially when attach with bluetooth headset.very low voice and bad connectevity .i tested with ( nokia BH209,sonyericsson HBH-pv703,sonyericsson HBH-PV770,Plantronics 510,motorola ) got saaaaame result
5-where is the basic function screensaver??
6-you will arrive to your destination and the GPS reciever didn't locate signal . in my TyTn2 it takes 9 seconds to locate...indoor.
7- always dying battery .
8- no update for system . why?its strange!!!! while the same OS in nokia have always update.
aaahhhh its a donation .
9- very short calls log list
and more and more there is a weak points in this phone .
please samsung keep your way for nice simple devices .
"The trackball itself is another controversial part of the Samsung i550 hardware. As much as we like trackball navigation, we just couldn't let it get away with the painfully slow response. Rolling a thumb all the way we only managed to move about two icons in the menu. Scrolling through very long lists (usually in the gallery or file manager) will probably take quite a lot of time and effort."
- That's quite an unfair review. You can change the trackball sensitivity under Settings|General|Personalisation|Trackball sensitivity
this is a badass phone.. the pc studio doesn't allow me to install while having a nokia pc suite on my pc.. it made me remove my nokia pc suite and didn't allow me to install.. like wtf ? -.-" think twice if you're buying this phone to replace a nokia phone.. i give it 2/10 for user friendliness.. bah~!
Does anyone know how to upgrade this phone firmware??
Coz it seems that the contact searching is not that correct.. It is not following the standar searching mechanism.
Have been using it for more than a week. At first, was wondering how to use the GPS. But currently no issue at all. Had installed Garmin Mobile XT 4.10.60 with Malsing v2.23 Gold map. Just need to be patient when you start the GPS application (Garmin) or activating GPS data. Make sure you are outdoor or in-car. It will take about 2-3 minutes to capture the satellite. Do not compare with N6110 navigator cause it is much more faster. I have been using N6110 navigator previously and traded for i550w because of the screen size and definitely the price. Just don't understand why some user was facing phone restart problem which i don't till now :) The phone performance was great even with 4gb micro sd which i was using. I have even tried fully utilizing the micro sd and it is still fine. This phone is definitely worth for what you are paying for.
This unit is till very new, not many GPS maps or navi software can be supported as it runs on the Symbian OS...
The only software that can support it's Google Maps.
Pratically it can't navigate, it only shows u yr exact location...and it utilize yr 3G's by downloading at least 75kb of data - which means u're paying everytime u use this :(
Unlike the PDA / palm phones which re using Windows Mobile Version, softwares like Garmin Mobile XT, Map King 10 can be installed at a go...
Samsung should have it's own GPS software just like the Nokia...ubfortunately they haven't...
I just bought this phone less than a week...still wondering how to activate the GPS naviatigation..
price wise phone is good....i liked thephone, its not stylish but again itsfullof featuresand loaded with new 9.2 SYMBIAN.
battery timing is soso. but if u can carry a portable charger than it should be fine.
now, can someone tell me HOW TO USE THE GPS FEATURE? i cant turn it on and route 66 never go online. Y?
it's a beautiful phone. On standby the battery would probably last a week. But beautiful it may be i need it to serve me some purpoes as well. That's when the battery goes flat even before i do at the end of the day. Come on Samsung, what is this?!
im afraid abt yr various opinions guys!! i bought this smart mobile justtt 2dayyy!! helloooooooooww!!
This phone is the KING of its class
-Perfect Symbian mobile
-Extreme Battery Life
-Superb Music Player
-Typical 3.2 mp cam
-Good Camera Flash
-Nice and fast GPS and Wi-Fi
I am so sorry about my previous post regarding the battery.
Now I'm gonna correct my statement.
Since it is very ridiculous that the battery is being eaten up for no particular activities.. I have a thought that there might be something running in the background.
As expected, the answer is YES!! The GPS DATA was running on the background without my knowlegde. So I must have accidentally pressed the GPS button.
So, please be assure that the Samsung i550 is not that bad as you might think it is based on my previous posting.
