I am planning to get this phone sent to me from Canada, the problem is that the phone is locked to a local service provider there, do i have to activate the Canadian simcard there before unlocking the phone? Is there any way to unlock the phone without activation?

Yes Rossco it can but only by installing an app for it. I use SMSpopup. Under 'notifications' in that app just set 'enable reminders'

I don't think the default messaging app has the feature u ask for. U can install Handcent sms from the market which has this reminder kinda settings.
