the updated google maps is not compatible to 2.1 anymore. so it's better for you to update your phone to froyo.

Hi,
I checked android forums and got the solution. Just uninstall updates of google maps under application/manage applications/google maps and the issue is resolved.
Several users have reported the same problem.
