Android eclair is latest version of Android Mobile Platform. One need to upgrade to eclair to take advantage of latest google offerings (Voice Search, Google Goggles + Bluetooth File Transfer etc.) + other apps which are compatible with only Android +1.6.
It won't void any warranty until you are on proper f/w, specific only to your region.
Android 1.5 is no boring. Infact, it runs far smoother than 2.1 and way more snappier in performance. From the fact, it won't support apps written for +1.6, you will need to upgrade to v2.1. Even if you don't upgrade, leave apart only countable no. of apps, rest all will support android 1.5.
Sorry to ask one more thing..is there any map application for free.. are these all applications available for free... except the co-pilot one which u said...and also.. should one really update to eclair 2.1... does it void the warranty.. and also is cupcake 1.5.. is really boring?? i heard so...

It doesn't matter which amount of RAM some particular device has. It the device is android device, it is multi-task enabled and this is implicit :)

Just a clarification... will replacing the defa... moreIf u grab upgrade through official channels, and then try to apply some Mod on top of it, Yes! it should defnitely void your gurantee (reason being the different PDA).
If you simply replace your home launcher with another launcher, you need not to worry about anything.
GDE, for example can replace your default home without even having root access. It is as simple as installing routine apps from market.

This is true! Google Maps won't let you save map-tiles on to sd-card for offline usage later. This is what we call google ;)
Fortunately, there are number of apps which allows you to save map-tiles to your sd-card for later offline usage. RMaps, Maps (-), OruxMaps, MapDroyd are few of them. Maps (-) enable caching of vectors for later offline usage while MapDroid enables you to download vectors for any specific region e.g. Asia, Africa and so on, enabling offline usage later on. With MapDroid you also have an option to download vectors for some particular country under a given region as well e.g. Asia >> India. Talking about RMaps, you can download Map-vectors only at your PC and later saving it to sd-card to enable RMaps app have access to those vectors for coordinating your GPS location with map-tiles. I haven't yet tried any free app which facilitate voice-guidance though, there is a paid app called "Co-Pilot" which enables Voice Guidance but it has issues working with android cupcake. Haven't tested it on v2.1 so far. Will let this thread know if I do.
Hope this helps :)
another thing... i read from many sources that spica only has 128mb of ram and that this amount does not allow it to multi task... is this true?
sm.gurdeep, 03 Apr 2010You are free to do anything with andoid ;)
Yes, you can replace default pantheon home with ... morethanks, gurdeep, for your explanation! :)
Just a clarification... will replacing the default "home launcher" or using a different "Mod" void the phone's warranty?
sorry, i'm quite new to android and don't have real knowledge of it...
Do anyone know how to transfer Android application from phone memory to microSD? From the manual, it seems like can only done when connected to PC. But I failed to do it even after install the PC studio...Not sure if it can only be done in Linux but not support Windows?

the thing is.. i had nokia n82 and have used voice guided navigation over it... and nokia maps do not need gprs to draw maps... u can store the maps in memory card.. hope u obviously know... so i was just concern for this feature in samsung spica... i am from jaipur.... this phone isnt available here.. going to delhi next week.. will surely get a spica.. was planning for nokia 5800.. but it have resistive screen.. which i think is a downfall in today's technology of touchscreenzzz..... so was concerned about voice guided navigation... any idea on that... and i am sure that google maps fetches data from gprs to draw maps.. and gps chip tells the location on that map.. as far as i know.. u cannot store google maps on memory card so that it even draws or rather shows the maps.. even if u r offline...and one more thing.. please tell that can we atleast get directions from our gps position to any destination .. i mean do our position moves in maps and tells us where to go without voice guided navigation...plz tell..
