I have always had Nokia phones and have now realised that Samsung has a lot to offer. My last Nokia phone was a Nokia N73, I had so many problems with it, it switches itself off and then cuts you off whilst in the middle of a conversation. I have now changed to Samsung and so far I have had no problems with Samsung. I am upgraing to a Samsung i8510 and the specs are way better than the Nokia N95 & N96. All those who feel that Nokia has had their time is correct, Samsung is definitely my number 1.
m hodgson, 24 Oct 2008had this phone for a couple of days before sending it back, battery life is the big problem, i... moreLight, fragile, plastic ??? You must be talking about a different handset. This is one of the most solid handsets available. Your description is exactly how I would describe the N96 though !
Having used this handset extensively for about 6/7 weeks now, I have just 2 gripes with it.
1) Will not work properly with my car bluetooth.
2) When receiving a call you can not activate loudspeaker if answered with the slide is shut. Yet if the slide is open when you receive a call you can select loud speaker. Also if you make a call with slide closed you can select loudspeaker.
can anyone tell me if u can disable the shutter sound when taking pictures?
i just bought this phone yesterday here in philippines. the phone itself is very much ok. i guess this handset is not appealing to the consumers unlike the omnia but as of now, i'm glad i have this the camera is ok. i used nokia n95 for more 1.5years, i guess samsung beats nokia way better.
with 8 mega pixels
u wont be needing a digital camera
its one of the hottest phones today
Laith, 25 Oct 2008Hey, why is everyone is acting like a child about the "Nokia vs. Samsung" thing? I've been ... moreI had all knid of problem with them too. I have switch to Samsung now mostly. But I would liek ot keep at least one Nokia phone. They are good for traveing and Auto set up to other country sim cards and internet.
Friends ! Don't think that Samsung or Nokia wanna defeat each other . Now they're working on many projects together including Powerful CPUs(more than 1ghz) , Graphical processors ,etc . It seems they just wanna laugh to us and enjoy user's fightings here !!!!
Its been more than 8 years i m using nokia phones and this is the first time i actually want to buy a samsung phone..rite now i m using n95 8gb..this ph is symbian, good battary timing..excellent camera..wut else u want.
Oh! I forgot to say...
The only bad thing about the INNOV8 is that the battery life is not very long, you must charge it almost everyday :(
I personally charge it every 2 days...
But I can live with that :)
Hey, why is everyone is acting like a child about the "Nokia vs. Samsung" thing?
I've been a Nokia user for 5 years (1100, 2100, 6600, 7610, 6630, 3250) but now I'VE HAD IT! I waited for Nokia for 3 years to release a mobile that doesn't go to the customer service almost every day or doesn't have to be formated or doesn't crash!
All my Nokia mobiles are not working now! :(
And they can't be sold (So I spent hundreds of dollars for buying other Nokia phones and for repairing them & changing their batteries!!) :(
I know that people now will say that I don't know how to use the Nokia mobiles properly or I broke them but HELL NO! All of them are in a great shape (only physically) and they look like new ones but NOT WORKING!!
(BTW I'm using a Siemens mobile (S60) for 4 years and IT'S WORKING GREAT, and it didn't visit the customer service or changed it's battery)
(I also have a Samsung phone (an old one) for 6 years and IT STILL WORKS)
But the Nokias can't be kept for more than 2 or 3 years.....
So FINALLY after this LOOONG sotry with NOKIA,I finally switched to SAMSUNG "INNOV8" :)
INNOV8 is working GREAT till now and the camera is AMAZING and the 16GB is so HELPFUL.........
I payed 850$ for it but I don't regret it, because with my experience with samsung, I'm not going to visit any customer service!! :)
I hope that the Samsung innov8 doesn't disappoint me like nokia, and I hope that it last with me like the other samsung & siemens phones!
Thanks for reading
Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970nokia n82 software is much faster then samsung innov8!!! (not true, where is your facts)
nokia n82 have xenon flash, innov8 haven't!!!(the one on innov8 good enough for phone)
nokia is the best cellphone manufacturer in the world!!!(what you call best? preformance? quality? have seen pilling of n76, have you seen preformance and quality problem of e66)
nokia have the best cameraphones in the world!!!(who say so? you. ha ha)
nokia have the best smartphones in the world!!!( who say so? you? have you use innov8?)
nokia rules, while samsung is just following, in second place!!!(they all follow as nokia follow iphone with 5800 express)
do not get me wrong i use nokia for 18 years but i am not blind. you must be 12 years person talking like this.
had this phone for a couple of days before sending it back, battery life is the big problem, i had about 7 short calls and made the same texts, forgot to charge it on the night, it wouldn't even turn on in the morning without any warning, then takes hours and hours to fully charge. You MUST charge this phone every single day!
Also this phone is light and feels very fragile and plastic, i think after a 12 month contract an upgrade would be a matter of urgency.
good points- the camera is very good but like most camera phones you have to keep it perfectly still, the music player has a very good sound and the dictionary is quite a novelty.
if you do end up with this phone be sure to get 2 chargers 1 for home and 1 for work, a car charger and dont wander to far away from them ! you've been warned !!!
Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970i just look through nokia's sample photos and this phone's and one thing is clear, this phone's beats every nokia phones in camera quality.
Samsung Techwin and Samsung Electro-Mechanic, two of the Samsung Electronic subsidiaries, have already developed 8 megapixel camera modules with 3x optical zoom.
The module has an autofocus performance improved by 57%, a 1/2.5 inch CMOS sensor and lens that support F2.85.
A Samsung Electro-Mechanic official unveiled that the first handset to come with 8 megapixel and 3x optical zoom will be released in early 2009.
Even more, Samsung manufacture is also working on a 12 megapixel camera module that will be smaller than the 8 megapixel one.

TI OMAP 2430 model are the 2nd generation of TI OMAP chips, 2420, powers multiple hi-end Nokia smartphones(N93, N95, E90, N82) and has in fact an integrated 3D accelerator.
The improvement from 2420 also extremely numerous. The CPU frequency has been pulled up to 450MHz from previous value of 330MHz. The chipset can work with high definition camera(> 5 MP) and it take less than a second to take shot. The rest important point about 2430 hardware are an upgrade TWL4030 module (TWL 92230 was used in 2420). TWL4030 is multifunctional solution providing access to numerous codecs, dedicated audio processing module, noise filters, and so on.
Samsung i8510 is the first Samsung smartphone to fully utilize the potential of the hardware graphics accelerator. It is an absolute requirement for processing 8 megapixel images, real-time VGA video decoding with separate audio signal processing(done by dedicated DSP, excluding the possibility of using the music player and camera at the same time). The graphic accelerator can now handle twice as few polygons per second, commonly used to power the best gaming phone.
Nokia N85 utilizes the same hardware as N78, N81, and N79. Freescale is cheaper solution for the most expensive TI OMAP 2430. The lack of 3D accelerator is blatant in the Jbenchmark 3D test. N85 lags behind in other test as well. Despite the lags seen in the test, N85 audio quality is the same with N96, a bit above than N78, but a bit below than Samsung GT-i8510 INNOV8.
- Samsung i8510 : Standard, Li-Ion 1200 mAh, Stand-by Up to 310 h, Talk time Up to 8 h 30 min
- Nokia N96 : Standard, Li-Ion 950 mAh, Stand-by Up to 220 h, Talk time Up to 3 h 40 min !!!!!!!!
- Nokia N85 : Standard, Li-Ion 1200 mAh, Stand-by Up to 360 h, Talk time Up to 6 h 50 min
- Samsung i8510 : 8 MP, Video VGA@30fps, QVGA@120fps
- Nokia N96 : 5 MP , Video VGA@30fps
- Nokia N85 : 5 MP, Video VGA@30fps
- Samsung GT-i8510 INNOV8 has faster hardware performance, the best camera, excellent sound - DNSe 2.0 (Digital Natural Sound engine), excellent build quality, good battery, good price etc. while Nokia N96 is the slowest most expensive and with just 950 mah battery.
- Samsung GT-i8510 INNOV8 fully utilize the potential of the 3D graphic accelerator. It is an absolute requirement for processing the camera, video recording, decoding and playback. Nokia N85 and N96 can't handle this perfectly because the lack of graphic accelerator.
- Samsung GT-i8510 INNOV8 is the best gaming phone today. U can enjoy your 3D or HD games running perfectly in 29 fps, while Nokia N85 and N96 only can run below 10 fps. Thank's to dedicated hardware graphic accelerator.
I used plenty of Samsung mobiles before....but honestly its really make me disappointed...but Innov8 lighten up my heart towards it....i will try it as soon as i can in Malaysia...b.u.m.p for samsung!!
