--"In 1995, it(Samsung) built its first liquid-crystal display screen. Ten years later, Samsung grew to be the world's largest manufacturer of liquid-crystal display panels. Sony, which had not invested in LCDs, contacted Samsung to cooperate. In 2006, S-LCD was established as a joint venture between Samsung and Sony in order to provide a stable supply of LCD panels for both manufacturers."---
Here is another extract from koreatimes:
--"LG Display's key clients are Japan's Panasonic, Apple and Chinese TV makers, while Samsung supplies Sony and Dell."--
here is more:
--"“All the LCD panels that Sony is using are designed and manufactured by Samsung,” Kris Lee, general manager of Samsung’s consumer electronics division in the Middle East said."--
You are messing it up. Samsung makes the panels at S-LCD and then it goes to Sony and Samsung separetly where they incorporate their own technology (back lighting, contrast ratio etc) for the final product.
This is not the right forum to talk about Tvs.
phil., 01 Apr 2009KAL! can you please read this! it is better then the one you post `coz its from wikipedia! ... moreoh! mistaken! that was `` samsung and sony will stop making lcd tv and making lcd using the name of s-lcd!
KAL! can you please read this! it is better then the one you post `coz its from wikipedia!
it is clear that samsung owns the company by itself and and this website doesnt says anything about samsung making the lcd panels for sony and if samsung makes lcd panels for sony then samsung will not make it`s own lcd with the help of these two company companies! and sony too

Phil., 01 Apr 2009Kai! Sony invented its lcd tv since 2005. Samsung and sony partnership in making 8th gen. Tv s... moreAgain you are bringing up the issue. Here is something to shut you up. Since you said Sony "invented" its LCD in 2005. I will give you what Samsung was doing before 2005:
2000: *Unveils TFT-LCD with Record-breaking Definition
*Develops The High Definition Digital TV
2001: *Develops World's first 40 inch TFT-LCD
2002: *Development of the 54"TFT-LCD, the largest digital TV monitor in the world
2004: *Released 46" LCD TV for the first time in the world
2005: *Developed the largest Flexible LCD Panel
*Developed the world's first OLED for 40" TV
I will say it again Sony don't make their own LCD PANELS. LCD panels and the final LCD Tvs are not same thing. Sony get the panel from others and then add their own technology and QA to achieve the final product. Till now they were getting the panels from Samsung. Now they will get it from sharp. Yes they are rivals. Sharp and Sony are rivals too but all these major manufacturers are going for joint production to cut cost.
