Updating this phone to the latest Jellybean OS or even Kit Kat AKA Android 4.4 is a daily easy process if you follow the instructions correctly if i were you id go with jellybean because my captivate froze a lot on Kit hat here is the link to the video for Jellybean- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hadizqVkwn0
you can find the 4.4 update video but trust me you are better of with jellybean i hope this comment helps all who want to upgrade to a higher OS :)

I'm actually running Cyanogenmod KitKat daily build on my old Captivate. It does well with it actually. Just don't get crazy with too many open apps. Overall, it's been a great phone

I hope someone can help me out! I bought the Samsung i897 captivate refurbished and unlocked less than a month ago and now the camera doesn't work. I lost at what to do, any advise would help me out!!!

Nice Phone and its well supported on XDA developers website just dont install too many apps on it because it only has 512 mb of ram

my Samsung Galaxy S Captivate is still kicking,but my battery is dead,its so hard to find this battery even in Samsung outlet in the Philippines, where could I buy the battery? my phone is still in good running condition,and good looking

I still use this little beast daily. With a Galaxy Tab 3, HTC Inspire, & Win 8X sitting in a drawer, I'm testing roms still today.4 years and a few scary brick moments. She's still kickin. :)

Down load kies mini onto your PC
Make sure you have internect connection.
Connect your USB cord to the Phone and Pc (Make sure USB Debugging is on)
