It's a decent phone, even in 2024. I am actually typing this from a Galaxy S1
Remember walking around the store looking for a replacement for my beloved E66 which at the time I bought it (2008) had all I needed but with a small battery that never lasted more than one and half up to two days. I was looking for something I didn't even had a clue what, and then suddenly among all those LCDs stacked in a rack at eye level one next to another one, THAT display blew my eyes like a blast of a supernova. Kind of like when you get in a car that you instantly fall in love with its dashboard and interior, or when your eyes suddenly stumble upon the gorgeous looks of a girl of your dreams - just the way you ALWAYS wanted her. Galaxy S1 was love at first sight. I've had that phone for almost four years, and if it hadn't started freezing up, I would have stuck with it much longer. Even to this day - though I've used both the S9 and S20 - no display has wowed me as much as the S1. Back then, Super AMOLED screen was like sudden lightning from the crystal-clear sky. I never forgot that feeling since then and still feel the same just as if it had beens now just a moment ago.

Hello! I have this phone from when I bought it brand new and it still worked until YESTERDAY! Now I get a box icon with an arrow and little android character icon. I turned off all radio and cell service and put it on airplane mode last time I turned it on. I wanted to use it as a testing phone/dev device but now it seems bricked. I wouldn't mind trying to put a different android version on it or a different OS altogether, but i can't seem to get past that stage even with it connected VIA usb to my laptop. I downloaded heimdall in an attempt to gain access to the device but it isn't recognized VIA usb.

I think it's fair to say that without this phone Android would've failed or at least not be half as big of a platform it is today.
