However I can drag and edit the 3 shortcuts on my Froyo(branded) phone. Just the same. I pressed app >left soft key >edit, then can edit the 3 other shortcuts.
GTalk Status Icon Become Robot When Using on Android devices (SGS). But mine is showing online status as normal green dot while online at my Samsung Galaxy S android gingerbread 2.3.4......?
I've been playing with the TouchWiz 3 interface which is included in XXJVR.
Early days yet, but I have found two interesting things so far.
1) Don't like the four icons at the bottom of your screen? Wish you could change them to ones you prefer? Now you can. Touch Applications, then the left soft button, and then Edit. Now you can drag a shortcut onto one of the first three icons on the bottom bar to change it. Then choose Save. You can't change the Applications icon though (obviously).
2) Accounts and Sync. If you click on Add Accountyou now have Facebook, Twitter, and My Space options. I haven't bothered with them yet, but I guess you can integrate them into one account if you wish.
Update on I9000XXJVR firmware.
I unplugged my charger at 6am yesterday and the battery widget I use (which has always proved pretty accurate) showed the battery at 98%. I used the phone as normal and at 7am this morning the battery level was at 89%, which is surprisingly good.
I would point out though that this was achieved by the following:
3)Background Data OFF
4)Live Wallpaper OFF.
My motto is - If you don't use it, lose it.
I NEVER use 3G because I've never found a use for it, and anyway the 3G signal is awful where I live (Essex). I only use WiFi at home, and then not very much. Live wallpaper? What's the point, you only see it for a few seconds when you unlock the phone. Background data - who wants their phone sending out data behind their back? I only turn it on when I want to use WiFI, and then turn it off again.

samsung user, 12 Aug 2011Please help me how can I upgrade my phone Samsung gt-i9000 with gingerbread? what is procedure... moreAbout upgrading to android gingerbread v2.3.3 you have two ways, The first one is official by downloading Samsung kies (the latest version) when you connect your mobile to the pc with Samsung Cable.
If the Samsung Kies didn't find any update, that is because the update hasn't been released for your region yet.
The second way which I actually used it, Is by using a program Called "Odin" any version like 1.0 or 1.3 or up, you can use "Google" to download it but it will be in the website that I will give it to you down there so don't worry now about downloading it.
In this program you will need first to download the firmware rom version you want to install for example if you want to install v2.3.3 or 2.3.4 you have many roms to download all these roms are different in its application and the user interface. So v2.3.3 have many roms under many names like "JPJV6" or "XXJVK" and many more (it depends on the region and the language pre-installed on the rom), then after downloading the rom you will find in the file you have downloaded a file called PIT file and PDA file and Phone File and CSC file.(not all of the is usually required for installing the rom).
So install the firmware you want to use then download it to your pc (it is about 180 mb). I found the instructions on a website called:
but it is in Arabic language, If you couldn't read Arabic you could translate the whole page in Google Translate. Here it is when it is translated
And here is completely another site all in English for installing v2.3.3
follow the instructions and it is very easy.
In your mobile to get into download mode see this picture for helping you.
And the most famous site about upgrading your phone firmware is xda forums:
but the easiest instructions you will find in the second website link androidadvices.com.
I hope you could manage to install it and If you need any thing else I will be there
Thanks for reading and I'm sorry for writing too much

In answer to your first question, open the email app and press Menu > Accounts > Menu then Add account. Now type in the email address and password for that email account and the sgs will do the rest.
For the second question. You will need to create a Samsung Account online. Then you can enter the email address and password. The software update feature on the phone isn't active as yet. Apparently Samsung haven't switched it on yet for the SGS.

Joe, 12 Aug 2011Hi does anybody know if u can add notification tones to the galaxy s i9000?
I have detailed before how to do that, but I'll list it again.
On your SD card, create a folder named Media. Inside that folder, make a sub-folder named Ringtones, and a sub-folder named Notifications.
Put your ringtones inside the Ringtones folder, and your notification sounds inside the Notifications folder.
Turn your phone OFF and then back ON and the sound files will be available.

So what i was trying to work out, is if people are never going to be able to update via Kies, or are they just wanting to update asap, and are therefore doing it themselves. Maybe Kies will actually provide 2.3.4 eventually on all branded phones(which seems to be the majority of phones). No idea myself.

Hard resetting just puts the phone to an out of the box state but it will still be on the original firmware that was last flashed to it. So, if I were to hard reset my phone now the firmware version would still be JVQ, as that is the last firmware I flashed my phone with.
The unable to upgrade problem was well documented over at the Virgin mobile forum, and the advice given was to take the phone to a Car Phone Warehouse and they would flash the phones for free to the latest versions.
I found it easier to flash the phone myself, rather than take it to a CPW. It takes less than ten minutes to do it yourself once you've read and understood the instructions.
All the best.
