I want to upgrade my Galaxy S phone firmware from android 2.2 Froyo to android 2.3 gingerbread or 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 any gingerbread version that has been released by Samsung.
But since I'm from middle east, I connect my mobile phone through Samsung Kies using many versions (v1.5 and v2.01) and the program tells me there is no update found, so what can I do to get gingerbread?
please any one who upgraded his mobile phone or flashed it with custom rom tell me what to do.
It is the 4th week for me using the galaxy S.
So I need someone to tell me an easy step by step what to do to get android 2.3 gingerbread (The offical one by samsung) and what will I lose if I installed custom roms knowing that I haven't done anything with the original software nor I didn't root it. (Nothing is done with the software so if there a step before upgrading please share it with me), Can I install the samsung official update for the firmware to make my phone 2.3 or there are some firmwares that are not released by samsung which can do the same job.
I need some one to tell me which upgrade should I go for it the official one by samsung or another one, because I don't know and I'm new is the android world
My current Firmware version is 2.2
Baseband Version I9000JXJPD
Kernel Version 220.127.116.11 root@SE-S606 #89
Build Number FORYO.JPJPF
Thanks in advance and I would be very grateful for helping me update my phone.
u should all switch to the galaxy s2 ... it worth the money ... the Galaxy S-Series is the Best in the world now
I need an honest opinion. I am using the original galaxy S since quite some time now. Is it worth upgrading to SGS2, or should i wait till more powerful phones are released. From what i've heard, the real life difference b/w SGS & SGS2 is not much. Even though benchmark diff is huge.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know how you could be sick of the Galaxy S
I have had mine for about a yea... more@ Galaxy Fan.
Thanks for the input, but to give you an idea of why I've grown tired of the Galaxy S I'll explain a few things.
For me the navigation software doesn't work. It has a hard time finding my position with any degree of accuracy. The voice guidance is unintelligible and it doesn't have true offline mapping.
I will admit that as an Ebook reader it is very good. I've used the inbuilt Aldiko app and can't really fault it.
The allshare app is useless for me as my Toshiba HD TV isn't DNLA capable.
So I'm left with a slab of a phone just for calling and texting which means all that technology is going to waste on me as I'm not using it for anything.

I don't know if you have read this newspaper article about Nokia, but it makes intere... more@ Freefaller.
As a regular reader of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday I'm well aware of their bias towards Apple. There have been several articles praising the iPhone and at the same time writing disparaging articles about Nokia and Android.
That being said, most of that article is only too true. Nokia have lost their way in the world over the last few years but the appointment of Steven Elop should bring them back on track.
I know a lot of people who are not happy with WP7 but Microsoft have given Nokia the green light to customise and tweek WP7 to bring it up to the same sort of functionality as Symbian as well as including Nokia's Ovi maps navigation software.
That article failed to mention the soon to be heard court case where Nokia are suing Apple for theft ( for want of a better word ) of technology that Nokia invented/devised regarding touch screen smartphone concept. Samsung are also suing Apple for breach of patents. A lot of the technology inside the iPhone is actually made by Samsung who in turn have sole patent rights to use that technology in certain countries. Apple do not have permission to sell iPhones in those countries, so they are in clear breach of patent regulations.
I've rattled on long enough, but I will say the Nokia N8 has been a very useful phone for me considering what I actually use a phone for. Pretty much the same as you; texting, calling and a bit of emailing and web surfing plus lots of photos. That's why I got the N8 in the first place, the 12 MP camera.
Thanks for listening.
Hi...i wan to ask that......is 2.3.3 already available in malaysia? If it did...y my phone cannot upgrade to 2.3??

my samsung galaxy Proximity sensor for auto turn is not working, maybe i off it, how can i... moreto enable auto rotation:
Press the left touch screen from the touch screen buttons (not the back button nor the middle button) the left one,
then a short menu will comes to you, press on "Notifications" up there you will find in the top of the screen many buttons one of them is called "Auto Rotaion" press it until its colour be Green.
or you could put your finger on the top of the screen on the dark grey bar at the top, that have the clock and battery status, put your finger there on the screen and move your finger to the down the screen until the touch buttons on the bottom and do the previous stepes.
I don't know how you could be sick of the Galaxy S
I have had mine for about a year. Love it. and have flashed it to the latest Gingerbread ROM.
I use it for navigation, book reader (Kindle app). office apps (quickoffice) videocam with direct upload to YouTube.
Also for streaming wirelessly movies , music to my Samsung LED HDTV using the ALLSHARE APP included in phone.
Most people aren't even aware of half the things the phone can do.
