This original Galaxy handset made quite a benchmark, but left many things to be desired. And instead of focusing on them, Samsung came out with numerous Galaxy siblings that compromise on one thing or the other to make it economical.
Money is not an issue. Give me a really good product that creates a benchmark difficult for others to beat, and you have the world at your feet.
I would like to have the following additions or modifications in this handset, retaining all the original goodies:
-> Most important of all a good Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) battery of atleast 2700 mAh or at least 1800 mAh. Big screens & faster processors need a lot of power. It may at most increase the thickness a bit more. But, didn't we have mad fans of the Nokia communicator Bricks. It is worth it to have the extra juice.
-> Physical QWERTY keypad is always preferable to the on-screen one. It just makes a lot of difference. Gives a much better user experience. Pls give it.
-> Active Magnetic stylus is possible for Capacitive Amoled screens. It is very much helpfull & essential while using touch-screens. Doesn't take much of a space, so why not include it?
-> We today have A Dual Core 1.5 Ghz processor from Qualcomm and maybe a quad core in the coming. So why not give a better one, instead of waiting for long. Take the initiative.
-> 1080p is today possible with Full-HD video recording at 30 fps, with the Exclusive dedicated graphics chip and newer processors. So why limit to 720p?
-> Nokia N8 has a 12mpx cam, Samsung's very own Pixon has a better 12 Mpx snapper. So why not include a 12 Mpx Auto-focus camera with good anti-shake, anti-blur stabilising features. Optical zoom can be omitted.
-> A good Xenon and Dual LED flash should become the standard now.
-> A front camera need not always be VGA, it is definately possible & desireable to give a 2 mpx secondary front camera for Video-calls.
-> Dedicated Shutter key - isn't asking for much. It is definately required.
-> A good pair of Stereo speakers, if possible alongwith the 3.5mm audio jack.
-> Nowadays it is possible to give an internal memory of 32 or 64Gb, so why not give it?
-> Alongwith the above memory, you can also give an external hotswappable micro-SD card slot. You know we can use micro-SD cards like floppies. Not too costly to include one.
-> Android 2.2 has come up on most of the phones, but you can go ahead & give a better one - Gingerbread.
-> And please retain this same form factor, after removing the annoying CHIN at the back.
I may sound crazy, but these will make a B-I-G difference if at all SAMSUNG is concerned with what the customers want.
SAMSUNG are you listening?
And yes, they do seem concerned by the customers' needs or desires - that's how the GALAXY I9000 emerged in the first place!
So, why not finish what you started in the first place.
SAMSUNG - we are eagerly waiting!
Give us the stuff!

Raag, 07 Oct 2010Do we need screen guard for Galaxy s? and also how tough is the body or hardware of this phone? You don't need a screen guard but I have one anyway just to be sure, the body is strong have dropped my phone now from waist height twice onto wooden floor and not one scratch.
Lots of people say it is cheap but it is not cheap it feels nice to hold and very light and very very strong. The hardware is amazing there is nothing you can't do.
