i have been using the galaxy s for about 3 months now . i think the touhwiz is not bad but i prefer the ui launcher pro offers . i have rooted my phone , its running at 1.2 ghz and i have flashed my phone u sing odin to android 2.2 < froyo >. compared to using 2.1 < eclair >.froyo is way faster .. after flashing my phone to 2.2 the bateery life has increased incredibly and the phone overall has become very fast. note if u want to flash yourphone to 2.2 you can ask me for the details i will be more than happy to help you .
why they dont put everything on a single phone n make it the best.no flash no fm recording mono feeble speaker nd plasticy body dnt knw wat to buy this or n8?currently using wave.
Well, I thought I'd share a few things with you guys. First of all,I got this phone a while ago, approximately a week.
Alright, the first major reported "issue" with the phone is its battery life. Well, it's a wide subject the battery... I've charged it 3 times since I took it, last charge being 4 days ago. The first 2 times I charged I was using wi-fi, 3G network, downloading, installing, having the display brightness on the maximum settings, etc, using it fairly over the top. The battery lasted a little more than a day those days. If you don't use such power consuming modes and the like, the battery life can last for about 5 days, I assume. That's pretty decent.
The signal issue is the 2nd thing I wanted to discuss. Yeah, I've had moments where I've been on the receiving end of bad reception, but I'm not sure whether that was the phone's fault. In any case, under such circumstances, the loudspeaker's quality drops. It isn't -VERY- good in the first place, but I wouldn't use a loudspeaker for much in the first place.
The smoothness, the UI and applications. The phone has it all, it's extremely smooth, very fast, handles multitasking flawlessly. I truly have no bad thing to say there.
The design, weight. Yeah, the phone is indeed plastic when you take a look. But truth be told, you don't pay much attention. The phone is slim, feels amazing in the hand, isn't heavy NOR is it light like many people say. It's just -right-. So no remarks there either.
The display. Oh the display... You know, I've heard people say "You gotta see it to believe it". People on reviews saying "The camera simply doesn't do this phone's display any justice". I never believed that. Well, now that I'm looking at my TFT widescreen monitor... Damn, it looks dull. So very dull compared to the super AMOLED. I can't imagine a better screen.
My only major remark would go for the headset. The headset's jack is very... rugged. Or fickle... Something along those lines. I simply dislike it, I've got problems with it. Being a TRRS (tip-ring-ring-sleeve) jack, I have to use force to plug the sleeve all the way into its socket.
Final words - Phone's a beast. Truly something astonishing. Most of the "problems" I've heard people talk about are just that - talk, with nothing to back it up.
I hope I've helped some guys here make a decision and that I've been helpful.

Anonymous, 18 Sep 2010paul, seems u know samsung phone well. can u tell me how to goto new line in t9 when typing te... moreI use better keyboard with default skin but you should just have a return key to press for a new line a curved arrow facing left.
why do you need to view bmp images?
jpeg is much better not to mention the drastically lower filesize
The GalaxyS is the most advanced fone on the market BUT it has 2 fails. 1. Bmp images over about 10mb are not viewable and any Bmp of around 5mb while viewable they are not intelligently rerendered when zoomed so they they are crap. 2. Also in the android Word editor you cannot swipe characters andcut and paste. I am able to do all of the above on my 2 year old Omnia1 and also on my 5 year old Dopod. What gives?Does anyone know why? And if a android app is available please let me know which one and where to get it. I am extremely dissapointed in that the Galaxy S cannot handle BMP images
this mobile seems to be very well.. 2 months ago i've bought i8910 and i love that, now i was reading all specification of Glaxy s and i phone 4, these two mobiles are really awesome but i prefer iphone 4 over i8910 and Glaxy s for only 1 reason! only only ONE..! just because of available applications for i phone4.. there are a lot of applications for i phone4 that realy works. but for symbian and android there are few applicatinos and their costs are also high than iphone4 applications.. for whom who loves playing games and love music iphone4 and ipod touch4 will be the best.. i'm also thinking to sell my i8910 and buy ipod touch4 just because i love to have more more application and these application should work fine and i'm sure they will but when i install application on i8910 it says certificate error i hate to see these stupid errors..
I just ordered this phone 5 days ago, but I'd like to know something, do I have to have to only update to whatever Android OS update Samsung decides I should have (with TouchWiz which apparently sucks), or can I just root it and install regular unedited releases of Android as they come out? And if so, what will be the consequences such as missing features and hardware incompatibility? I'm guessing there wouldn't be many considering the iPhone can run Android without many problems so it's not a matter of needing to edit it to suit specific hardware.
When you get the SGS i9000 and use it for 2 weeks and then get an iPhone 4 and use that, you will see what an absolute technological jewel the iphone 4 really is, and just how much of a desperado wannabe the SGS really is. No bull. Yours very truly, heybai.

MOBZ, 16 Sep 2010in the usa this phone is called samsung captivate so you should refer to that and yes it is 3g... moreI WANT TO USE A SAMSUNG GALAXY i9000 ON AT&T 3G NERTOWRK... CAN I???
i did specify that i do not want the Samsung Captivate by AT&T because AT&T modified Androind and locked it down in a way that makes it lose the nice essence of Android: the fact that is an Open Source Software.
The Captivate has several limitations imposed by AT&T: one is the fact that you can only use Android Market applications, and not third parties, then these is a pretty ridiculous one: you can not default your search engine to something different, because it is locked for YAHOO!... instead i normally use Google... how about that: i get a Google Phone but i can't use Google???
I want to get this Samsung Galaxy S i9000 and use it with AT&T but i will buy it only if it works in 3G... so my qyestion remains: does THIS PHONE WORK WITH AT&T 3G NETWOK?
