Sounds like you've got a Firmware that hasn't ever been through the Samsung servers, so Kies doesn't recognise it.
Your only option then is to flash your phone yourself using Odin and the correct firmware files for your country/region.

hello all samsung fans and users . guys please really i want help . i was nokia symbian user after that i moved to samsung android user plus fan . i owned galaxy s version 2.2 and without android market :( i downloaded samsung kies and want upgrade my device to 2.3.x but system replayed me 'your device not support software' :( really i am unhappy with samsung . can anyone help me please .
If they had ultraphone category this phone would fit right in,had mine 3months already and only a few small problems popped up,the gps is inaccurate sometimes tellin me that im in another town or to make u-turns on the highway.battery life as well is a downside, occasionally eating up battery all by itself, which seems to be caused by stuck app.but battery life still better than iphone.
On the upside its fast,u wont get better for price, the camera is fairly brilliant although not good at night as it lacks a flash which was a bad decision by samsung.
Its a hard and tough phone, the glass screen is scratchproof and accurate.
I would recommend this phone to everyone, but there is a galaxy s+ which is a bit faster and it only costs about 5% more than an s.
Sadly both of these only support 2.3 at this stage.if u want more get an s2.
AnonD-1647, 28 Mar 2012Need some help guys! Really confused about buyin my next phone! Its either gonna be nokia n8, ... morenot sure if neo v has hdmi. my choice xperia arc s(8mgp)which was £199 at dialaphone.com, sgs or neo v in no order. The hdmi port really makes a different when viewing pics and games on the tv, whereas the tv out really loses some sharpness of the orginal media etc. I am not a fan of nokia anymore, not to mention the differences for a faster UI OS on android, and loads of good free apps, games. My x6 crashes regularly, as i here is common. Tv out on my sgs is good enough for most games and it has a better GPU. My girlfriends Arc s is way sharper.
Need some help guys! Really confused about buyin my next phone! Its either gonna be nokia n8, 603, 701, sony neoV, samsung galaxy S or maybe iphone(long shot), drop in your suggestions! Not new to moddin, almost been a developer for symbian since 2 years, using a 5233 at the moment, priorities are good camera, good apps, gaming(rare, but yeah!), modding, tv-out..suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks:)

AnonD-13788, 25 Mar 2012yeah, tell me about it. I actually got malware on my xperia mini from you tube of all things. ... more@ Ukuser
You wouldn't expect a trusted web site to be infected with Malware until you consider who owns the site. If Google allow Malware onto the app market then it comes as no surprise to me that YouTube has the same problem.
As for your Nokia problem. The only way to get it SIM unlocked is through the network as they're the only ones who can generate the unlock code. You could try flashing it with a generic firmware using Phoenix service software but there's no guarantee that would work and runs a high risk of bricking your phone. Your best bet is to keep on at the network to supply the correct code but if you enter the wrong three times it becomes permanently locked and only Nokia can reset it.
does anyone know if flashing my nokia phone would unlock it, and similarly if flashing unlocks any phone...debrands it etc
( my network and nokia couldnt provide correct codes to unlock it).

I actually got malware on my xperia mini from you tube of all things. I couldnt believe it came from there so I did a search and found it on wikipedia all about " you tube malware" and all the spamming issues on you tube, plus obvious suspicious links posted under videos. All I did was click on some video, and then for over a day my phone had reload in the browser and just reloaded you tube over and over again rendering it useless. This only happened when I tried to access yt from my phone browser. It took about 5 Factory resets to sort out.
Faraz, 25 Mar 2012Hello everyone. I want to upgrade my SGS1 to ICS. However, I am unaware of the entire process.... more
The best place to go for flashing guides and custom ROMs is always going to be the XDA developers site. You will find absolutely everything you will ever need for your Galaxy S over there. To get you started with updating to ICS please follow the link below.
Be aware though, I have tried ICS on my Galaxy S and was less than impressed. I don't think I even left it on for an hour before flashing back to stock.
All the best.
