My new Samsung I9001 looks and feels great, but here are some problematic issues I've found:
1. Voice Recorder App problem: None of the vendors can produce a I9001 voice recording application that can run without the Speaker Phone on. Hence, both the quality and volume of the remote party's speech are poor, and one's privacy is lost due to the speaker phone remaining on during the call. One vendor mentioned that the I9001 is not equipped with the required hardware to record direcly from the earpiece. Hence the problem cannot be overcome by upgrading the firmware. If this is true, it means that the problem will never be corrected.
2. Perhaps its a universal Android platform problem, but I'm dissapointed in the limited availabilty of compatible applications. Too often there are hardware variations between the various mobile vendors that lead to software incompatibility. If you have already paid your money to downloaded an application, and it fails to run properly, you have been suckered!
3. I dislike the installation warnings that appear prior to installing an application, especially in regard to one's privacy and liability. Surely the end-user cannot be asked to sacrifice most of his legal rights before he has tested the product. In my opinion, obtaining end-user consent in this manner this manner, amounts to unethical business practice.
4. My impression is; (a) That no proper standard has been prescibed, or applied, to ensure that application developers/vendors are compelled to declare which mobile platforms their software is intended to run on, and, (b) That refunds are not readily available to end-users when a paid-for application download fails to deliver what was promised.
PS: Samsung and Android market - Are you listening?
Why does this device perform so badly in Quadrant and other tests when compared to SE Xperia Arc S? They both have the same hardware but Arc S scores over 2000 points in Quadrant, while SGS Plus reaches only about 1400 points. Even the Xperia Neo @ 1Ghz performs better (1700 points). I quote the results in the GSMArena reviews of the respective phones. Anyone - any idea?!
