2 tips for all Windows Mobile users.
1. You _have_ (!) to install an application that closes the current program when clicking on X. Microsoft are just too stupid to admit that that't the right solution.
I use tMan:
After installing you have to start tMan.exe or restart the device.
It works well but sometimes the whole start bar from above the screen disappears and then I have to restart the PDA to display it again. I don't know if it's tMans fault.
If you follow this, you don't have to call the task manager too often to close applications. But do it anyway every now and then.
2. Another suggestion:
You have to know that the Omnia has 3 types of storage memory (in fact there is more but these 3 count more):
-"main storage memory"/"device memory" (~55 MB free with nothing instaled), where you should install only essential drivers or software which has to autostart with windows; don't save any photo, video or song here, except ringtones or avatars, if the application needs those files exactly on the internal device ROM;
-"My Storage": the "internal" 8/16 GB of memory, on which you can install big applications, videos, mp3s etc.
-the "external" SDHC card slot: optionally you can put a micro SD card here - maybe someone needs more space than the preinstalled 8/16 GB...
When you go to Settings-System-Memory, on the right side you see the RAM memory (labeled "Program"). When you have many programs open, the amount of free "Program" memory falls down. On the left side you see the device storage memory (labeled "Storage"). When you go into the second tab ("Storage Card"), you can switch the type of memory shown on the left side with the SD card (if you've installed one).
3. When Windows boots and wants to load a driver or program installed by you on the SD card, it could be that at that point it hasn't loaded the driver for the SD card and so it can't load the driver. The same happens if you connect the phone to the PC in "USB mass storage" mode. In this case the PC has exclusive acces to the external memory and you cannot start an application is installed on the SD card even if it's icon appears in the Programs menu.
4. For programs/games written for the HTC Touch Diamond to work with the gyro-sensor: you have to install the HTC emulator, consistsing of 2 DLLs which you have to copy into the \Windows folder.
Look here for the driver:
With this you can run something like this:
As you see again, it's not easy to deal with such a complex phone. Windows Mobile isn't going to make it easier for you too :) . If you can't cope with it, buy a recent HTC model or an iPhone.
14thvillain, 21 Jan 2009hi t-dome. that google android thingy caught my attention. Would this be an optional thing (me... moreHi,
there are rumours that Samsung will launch an Omnia with Android preinstalled (so it will be another phone, but probably similar to the i900).
But teoretically it is possible to install Android even on the i900, but I didn't hear that someone actually did it.
Research (meaning: hacking/cracking) has to be done how the flash update process works on thir particular phone.
I already saw a video on youtube with Android beta on a HTC Touch Cruise, so it should be possible on every phone. Just it hasn't been done so far on the i900.
Oszieuk, 22 Jan 2009The Omnia phone is not all it's cracked up to be nor as good as all these people say. It's for... morethe omnia is a great phone-used it for a few months now and i never had an issue with it.it looks stylish, nothing too obvious and mine has been working like a swiss watch just as it was when it came from the box.as far as that piece of electronic junk called the IPhone-would not have it even if they begged me to take for free.i think the whole company should be liquidated and the owners shot in public as a prime cause for a brain-washing society, but unfortunately thats just me
S.Sri, 22 Jan 2009Hey Andres,
What a proclamation. U hit the nail on the head. There are unfortunately people ou... moreExactly, thats my point. All these pocket pcs are exactly the same thing, the only diference is how the interface is presented to the costumer, how they look, if they have an external keyboard and such things.
Every pocket pc has the same functions, no matter what brand and all you need to know is how to work in a Windows ambience.
I think i was a little too hard but honestly i cant understand how people wastes money in such an expensive mobile when all they want is a high MPixel camera and a loud mp3 player.
These things are small computers, no matter what brand, and it is a total waste of every kind of resources to buy one if you cant understand the power they represent. If all we need is to make a call, listen to music and capture a picture from now and then... there are tons of free phones we can get just by signing for a monthly fee plan.
[deleted post]Hey Andres,
What a proclamation. U hit the nail on the head. There are unfortunately people out there who comment for the sake of commenting. Most of them are predisposed, brand wise & it is difficult to change them. Having said that I should admit that Omnia is not the ultimate. There are some other brands, those are as good as Omnia(X PERIA,Innov 8, HTC TOUCH & IPhone-3 G after the 3 rd party upgrades, to name a few) & there will be other phones in the future which will emulate Omnia. Nevertheless Omnia is undoubtedly one of the best in the market at this point in time.As quite correctly stated by u it is a mini computer & it is not that easy to master this monster.
hi folks...... little prob with my omnia....all of a sudden i cant get any vibration from my phone.....no touch screen feedback vibration....no call vibration....none at all any one can assist?...
i've tried all the settings stuff....but no luck
The Omnia phone is not all it's cracked up to be nor as good as all these people say. It's for ever freezing and loosing details during sync sessions. As for the latest Software update what a waste of time all it did was freeze the phone in the welcome screen and mean 5 days without while Samsung sort.Had to use the old Sony Ericcson and boy I had forgot whow my old P990i outperformed the Omnia. My not even go back when it rey=turns.
can someone give me a tip how to enlarge a picture for caller id, cause when my friends are calling me the picture is so small that you can't even see who is calling?

i am goin to get da fone sumtym soon by da review's it looks really aaaaaaaawwwssssssooooooomeeee
Samsung has just licensed some nifty sound tech that will juice upcoming phone for years to come with simulated 5.1 Surround Sound.
They were clearly impressed enough with SRS's performance on the Omnia to make it worth their while to sign on for a multi-year deal giving them access to SRS Circle Surround Headphones, SRS WOW HD, and SRS VIP+.
NB : At present, Samsung have licensed with Bang & Olufsen ICEPower(Serenata, U900 Soul, i450, F400, etc) and DNSe(i8510 INNOV8, m3510 Beat b, etc).
One last thing... just try using the Video Call and you will be even more happy with this pocket pc. Its amazing, you dont have to wait for pictures if you need to check how womething goes at the office... live conferencing and all that stuff.
Once again... you need a 3G conection... if you cant afford unlimited 3G service then this phone isnt for you, sorry!!!!
In reply to the guy with problems with the shortcut for the camera....
go to... SETTINGS - PERSONAL - BUTTONS
here you can asign the action to be taken when a button is pressed. just follow the on screen steps and you are done.
See... it is as BASIC as knowing that you can change what application opens when you hit a button, and probably few know that all the side buttons on the omnia have a second function if you press them for a few seconds. Just customize it and you will see.
in response to kiyas:
you can find more free themes, that can be trusted not to be viruses, in the windows mobile owners circle. you will need to set up a login for it though. you can get there, by clicking start, programs, 'getting started' and then there should be an option for getting new themes from the circle. hope this helps.
To other other users experiencing challenges with memory, whether using the 8GB or 16 GB versions; the omnia is a powerful device, its has the same features as a PC, yet it is on a mobile, this can often slow the memory down, so you need, occassionally when taking photos or video (any high-intensity activity), to visit the task manager, and stop any programs that are irrelevent to the camera, this frees up processing power to perform actions like taking pictures or video. it also solves the error message: 'not enough video memory available'.
The omnia is a complex device, but once you get to know how it works, and how to use it to its full potential, the rewards become obvious.
Hope all this helps.

t-dome, 18 Jan 2009Hi pplz! After 7 months of using an Asus P320 I just upgraded to the Omnia! It's the best! ... morehi t-dome. that google android thingy caught my attention. Would this be an optional thing (meaning you can opt to install this in future) or would this be a completely new version of omnia that would work for that OS?
