This phone can stand alone without any CD.
You can update this device when you go to settings, click "About phone", then "Software update" and "Check for update"
You need to explore the phone thoroughly before complaining.

Chris, 07 Oct 2011The screen of S II is just horrible. The pixel density is rubish and the blueish tone it has, ... moreI have been using SGS2 for more than two months now and have not experience those "HORRIBLE", "RUBBISH" and "BLUISH" tone screen pixels you are talking about. Maybe you are comparing it while the display of SGS2 is not properly set. Or maybe it is a defective unit.
SGS2 has super AMOLED plus display which is better than SC-LCD of Galaxy R.
LED is far more better than LCD as with the latest TV screens nowadays.
I would still recommend SGS2 with LED screen rather than Galaxy R with LCD screen.
Of course LED is more expensive than LCD!
SGS2 is the best phone of the year for 2011

hey guys updated this morning 2.3.4 and i have seen on the S2 some bugs and i am little bit new with android
1.taking a picture in the middle of the screen there is a small pink cloud
2.the app with news AP Mobile dosent work!!!
3.The Battery goes down pretty fast
Anybody know anything that can help???is there going to be another update soon
The screen of S II is just horrible. The pixel density is rubish and the blueish tone it has, is just unacceptable. My girlfriend just bought Galaxy R and before buying it, we compared it with S II and we liked the R more. Galaxy R has partly an aluminium body and the screen has correct white balance. Also it's slightly smaller than SII which makes it more comfortable to use. Ofcourse SII has slightly better specs AND a higher price but still I wouldn't recommend it if there's Galaxy R avalaible in your country.
zordick, 07 Oct 2011thanks for the link. can i ask what are the differences after you root your S2It is not a big difference. The initial reason why I decided to root was because the app "Adfree Android" needs root and it removes ads from free but adsupported apps and it removes ads from webpages in any webbrowser, but now that I am rooted I can use the "Titanium Backup" to backup all my apps and games and settings... and that is really good when I update my S2 or want to try any custom firmware because I now do not need to download every app and game that I have bought again and I do not need to set every app and game as I want them because Titanium Backup saves my settings in every app and game and some games that I have bought from other places (not Android Market) will not be lost or forcing me to risk having to buy them again,
and the app "Chainfire 3D" needs root and makes me able to play games made for NVidias Tegra, and I have an app that can take screen shots of my S2, "Screen Shot It" and it also needs root.
S2 is perfect even without root, so even if it is almost "riskfree" to root S2 you should be able to accept the fact that something could "happen" when you root S2 and it can end up as a unusable expensive brick, even though I have not yet heard of anyone actually being able to completly brick their S2!
