Anthony, 08 Jul 2013You got 4.2.2 back in December 2012?c'mon dude.. don't be that nerd.. when i bought this phone it got ICS later updated it to 4.1.2 and then on 4.2.2... :\
i'm considering buying sony xperia zr or samsung galaxy s3 but kinda confused .. which one should i buy? i really appreciate your opinions .. please help me choosing .. :D
undoubtedly Samsung has done a huge work and gave excellent contribution in the world of smart phone. The best example is Samsung s3, s4, note and note2. The main hardware in smart phone is battery and camera I.e. where s3 is seen weaking. The Samsung should come with good battery life and bring new camera technology like nokia pure view camera. s3 must be with 3000 mah battery rather than 2100 and camera should be like pure view technology. if Samsung could come up with new battery life like 3000 mah for s3 that would be great job. Thank you.

The battery came with the phone not so great 2200 mAh, maybe 2 days normal use but you can get 3000 mAh Samsung extended battery with back cover for around $40 ebay. AnonD-13788, 10 Jul 2013Ok TY. Is it still hold power button on, and volume down (or up)?@ UK user
You turn the phone off completely. Then hold Vol UP + Home and then holding those two buttons down press the Power button until the Samsung logo appears (three button reset). Then release all three buttons and you will see the Android robot appear. After that you will enter Recovery mode. Use the Vol Up/Dn button to select the option you want and press the Power button once.
AnonD-13788, 10 Jul 2013Ok. Well when my phone was new, i recall that i turned my phone on and did about 3+ updates b... moreNot every update is a ROM upgrade. Some are ROM patches. If the kernel or Android version is not going to change then you don’t need to clear the cache partition.
If you know the kernel or android version is going to change clearing the cache partition just before, will prevent potential conflicts and you would have no need to do the hard reset.
If you already did the upgrade clearing the cache partition then factory resetting right after would get rid of any conflicts you may have gotten.
B.T.W. I know this by observing what happens when I changed from region to region ROMs in the experimental stage. (Did it in different orders and ways) and to go back to my provider locked ROM I used kies to do the firmware initialisation. Presently I’m using the UK-BTU. What ever BTU stands for.

I flush the cache partition on my phone about once a month as a matter of course.
It's just a matter of battery out, battery in, boot into Recovery mode, select 'wipe cache partition', and then 'reboot phone'... Don't select 'Factory reset'..
Takes less than 2 minutes; and I find that my phone runs just that little bit faster and smoother.
Flushing the cache out does no harm to the phone. (It might just be my imagination but it certainly seems faster).

ARE you saying that the rom data still could be left in my case and the phone could benefit from the cache wipe + factory reset?
(or is it a case that as it was brand new and updated as mentioned, that basically my sgs3 is running as smooth etc as it should be).

If you haven't installed the Galaxy S4 Google Edition Camera app yet the you really must!
It is amazing what you can do with the options available. e.g When you take a picture, it shrinks to a small icon on the top right of the screen before vanishing to the right. Instead of having to go to your Gallery, all you do now is swipe the camera screen to the right to view your recent photos. It has options for panorama and photosphere as well as video. For settings, you just press down on the camera screen to load up a menu, and tap higher to get more and more options. There are filters, frames, the list goes on. You can even colorise one part of the picture without changing all of it. There is a lot more besides, just go onto YouTube to watch some of the demos.
Just download the apk from the link I'm posting and put it onto your external SD to install it. Then you will find 2 new apps in the drawer (camera & gallery).
Your original camera app and gallery are still installed, so if you don't like the new one you can easily uninstall it.
