i have a provider branded SIII that has been upgraded both OTA and kies method. so i know its not a fake.

Eg. If we run LG and different version of samsung, it gives correct information, right ? Doesnt it show dual core processor for other s3 variant? How does it recognize the device info from benchmark results? I appreciate your valuable comments.

@jack
and others

Just tested the IEMI # of the phone I posted online as a fake, and believe it or not this thing came back as being a SIII

Please note that there are physical differences between that device and what we would call a real SIII not to mentions it had no Samsung branded software one it (S-voice, S planner e.g.) or SIII bootloader. Yet the IEMI # pasted as being a Samsung SIII GT-i9300
My conclusion is…. There are different grades of SIII GT-i9300 (that one in the pictures being of very low quality) or the chip with the IEMI # came from Samsung parts stock which make me assume that the cheap look alkies are really being made on the same assemble line as the real deal.
Take a look at the pictures and come to your own conclusion.
So many things was wrong with that phone yet the IEMI has it registered as a SIII GT-i9300

it is going to be harder than I thought to detect the wolf in sheep’s clothing

The S/N is capable of downloading the current official ROM for your device using
Firmware upgrade and initialisation in Kies for your PC (connecting the phone is not required to test it) a random S/N would fail that test.

sorry i replied to the wrong person before.

I can’t tell by the information you gave
As I said before Android does not belong to Samsung.
And I can change my base band at any time (I have done it more times than I can count using Odin3 and roms readily available for free on the internet.)
Btw. I have a made in china model I9300 (service provider branded)
What I could not change is my IEMI number.
Take a picture of that battery compartment (the entire compartment) and post it online.
Then come back and post the link here. Just by looking at it sometime you can pickup on things that are not correct.

Anthony,

In regards to below discussion that is going on
regarding the made in VIETNAM, well the cell phone S3 which I am using says its made in Vietnam. After removing the battery I checked for this information.

SAMSUNG MOBILE PHONE
MODEL : GT-i9300
Made in Vietnam by Samsung

Samsung
Cell made in Korea, assembled in Vietnam

This is in the systems.

Android version 4.1.2
Baseband version 19300XXELKC

Is it still a fake? cause I purchased it from a very recognized retail outlet in Saudi Arabia.

Please reply.

Some of you may not want to hear this but the world is not made of cotton candy and chocolate milk.
In the real world the very assemble plant that assembles the brand name device some times also assemble the look-a-like (at what I will call after hours) switching out some of the more expansive parts with a cheaper alternative to cut cost. You the retailer get it at an unbelievable price from an unauthorised seller that way it stays off the official books of the brand name product.
This happens all the time in the world of electronics and you can fall victim to it not just with Samsung products.

S3 USER, 27 Mar 2013Anthony please run AnTuTu Benchmark.Click on device info once you finish test.It shows the Exy... more@ S3 USER
I ran the app as you asked and would like you to know the information shown(not generated) in the DEVICE INFO is a saved default/generic online spec sheet for a SIII and not actual tested information. It would be possible for a clone to trigger that very same page to load.
e.g. which internal scale did this app wipe out to calculate device weight?
Just look at the style of the font for that information it’s not an indication that it was generated on the phone. Its more like a saved web page.
The tested information is located under the System info tab (notice the difference in the font) which clearly identifies the CPU as Quad-Core ARMv7 Processor with frequency 200~1400HHz
Go take a look at it again

vlat4e1, 27 Mar 2013Ok iam not involved in this to much I just want to know is the original or fake s3... some... moreIf all you are interested in is knowing if you have a fake or not
Your IMEI # will tell you that. As Samsung has no exclusivity on any mobile chip model or Android version. But as a large legitimate company, all there mobile devices made through the correct channels (not made a after hours, some of you will know what I mean) are registered with a unique IMEI
It is written on the battery compartment sticker.
If you think the sticker is a duplicate you can also find it in…
Settings>About device>Status

Go to the link below and enter the # (dashes not needed)
There you will find out if…
The IMEI is valid
Brand
Mobile equipment type
Date of issuance
Reporting body
Legal basis for allocation
And some additional information
