In reply to your questions -
- version 4.3
- updated approx. 3 - 4 months ago
- updated via Kies
- did not perform factory reset. The update was performed before i was aware of the benefit of reseting.
- I generally kill apps at least once per day
- I try to do a restart (when I remember) once per week sometimes more often
Other than that I really can't tell you much more. Yes the phone gets hot if i talk for a while but I accept that after reading other comments on this forum.
You also mentioned that you were once technically deficient but that you learned along the way. I think your studies also help you to understand as I read some of your postings in the last couple of days and I was totally lost in the technological detail. Probably stuff I don't need to understand in any case.
I should also mention that i am from Melbourne Australia and that I have the international 19505 version. Prior to that I had an S2 for a couple of years and it was a great phone.
Hey Shubham, I have tried a lots for OTA update it says already updated. Last time I got 4.3 update by OTA but it's only for once. I didn't get any stability update. Only I got 640 MB 4.3 software update. After that no stability or minor update received. I dont know what happen to my phone. When u got 4.4.2 update? Last time u updated 4.3 after exact 1 month later I got 4.3 OTA update. Plz help me why my phone is not getting 4.4.2 update.
I have updated my Galaxy S4 I9500 Octa version to 4.4.2 using Odin as i was on 4.2.2 and no updates were available in my zone(Assam,India). After the update the phone has become buttery smooth and fast and no lags till now whatsoever. Now about battery- I removed my phone from charger at 11 pm yesterday and till now at 11.20 pm today i have about 31 percent battery left. I have been checking my mails, facebook status all day. About 25 calls and also played Modern Combat 4 and NFS Most wanted for half an hour or so. So according to me battery backup is also pretty nice.

ManoharManohar, 02 Apr 2014Hai Mr.Shubham yadav.... Thanks a million for your valuable advice! I had read many many of yo... moreYes, I live in IIT Bombay, Mumbai. Note 3 is better than s4 slightly but i don't think the indian version is worth the price. There is no 4k video, no snapdragon 800 and the price is 37k.
By going for value for money basis, s4 is much better but if your budget permits, better look for a 32 gB lg g2 if you want the best. It's really good as my father has one g2.
the international note 3 (not available in india) is really good. But here, i think g2 will be better bang for buck.
Still, S4 octa matches all of them in almost all the fronts.
Actually, there is not better. See, g2 is slightly better than s4, but is more expensive. So s4 is value for money while g2 is simply going for best. the g2 has one problem though, it doesn't have sd card, so get 32 gb one and the ui is not so good. But some people like it.
Make your choice. You can ask me again. BTW, if you want to sell your pureview, contact me. If price is good and camera is functioning great now also, i might consider it.
Have a nice day
zeus, 02 Apr 2014@Shubham Yadav... dude, can I upgrade my s4 I9500 to 4.4.2.?
I respect ur immense knowledge ... moreYou can always expect my reply. I'll always reply if i have time. There are many factors. I personally am on 4.4.2. I feel that the performance on 4.4 is miles ahead of 4.3 .The phone is as smooth as butter. Battery backup is not so great but it's not bad either. You get 6 hrs of on- screen time if you use it for one day, 3-4 hrs for 2 days and 2.5- 3 hrs if you use for 3 days. That means the standby time has gone down . in 4.3 ,I got 5 hrs exact screen time whether i used for 1,2 or 3 days. heating is negligible(almost non-existent in both)
To install 4.4, first backup all your data somewhere by the method you prefer. I would advise not to backup apps. It's more preferable to download again. Now do a factory reset, install the firmware via kies. Do a factory reset and backup your data. Stay for 4-5 days, if the phone doesn't settle and starts giving problems like battery drain, Do a factory reset again ( i had to do it and it works). Now after 2-3 days , your phone will work like charm .
I feel 4.4 is better as it gives really smooth performance.
Have a nice day

I had read many many of your reviews. You have become an Icon in this page! Ok, I'll forget Note2. S5 is not in my budget. I'll choose between S4 and Note3. Your maths is superb! But I come across many complaints on S4!
Your name suggests.... You are an Indian! Am I right! By the by I'm from AndhraPradesh!

@Shubham Yadav... dude, can I upgrade my s4 I9500 to 4.4.2.?
I respect ur immense knowledge regarding s4, expecting ur reply
I want to buy this device but after lots of review everyone is complaining about heating issue and battery draining.
after updating to android 4.4.2 is this problem still exist?
scorpio, 02 Apr 2014In your reply to Shabham Yadav you refer to having explained reasons for the phone lagging. I ... moreOne basic step.... move as much of your apps as possible to microSD card (card storage) through settings>more>Application manager>each app... try uninstalling the updates for apps you never use like samsung store, google+ etc. keeping the internal memory as free as possible!
Each update in Android uses new memory and old memory used by the older version is not recovered!try restarting android OS twice/thrice a week as caches are cleared. Remove any Task Manager 3rd party you installed. Return to Stock ROM!
scorpio, 02 Apr 2014Good luck with your exams Shabham. I enjoy reading your comments and those of Saurav and other... moreTechnically deficient. Even i was one 1 year ago. When i needed to purchase a phone and a laptop. Just start reading reviews and blog posts on gsmarena.com . They really help a lot both in increasing your knowledge in this field and you'll know not only about phones, but all about tech like headphones, laptop, screens and all.
Even i don't know that much but i'm not an electronics engineer. So the knowledge always keeps on increasing and you just get to know more about products. I've helped more than a dozen people in my relations to buy a smartphone and 6-7 people to buy laptops and all.
Have a nice day. And paper went well :P

What is your android version now?
When did you last update it?
How did you update it? OTA? Kies?
Did you do a clean install? (Doing a factory reset before and after update)
Do you kill apps? like press home button for long and kill all of them
How often you restart your phone?
Any more information you would like to describe about the lag like any unique apps or situations ? battery drain? heating ? etc.
I know it's too much to ask and i just want the answers qualitatively like a month ago you reset the phone or like that. I think i can surely help after that.
Anyways very much thanks for your comment. These kind of comments motivate me to continue writing here as there are people benefiting from my work.
Have a nice day
ManoharManohar, 02 Apr 2014Hai guys,,,,, I've been an ardent fan of Nokia Symbian phones and my present phone is Nokia 80... moreNote 2 has a bigger screen but it is no match for screen quality against s4. The s4 screen has a higher resoltion, newer technology and displays colors much more accurately and they also please the eyes. The note 2 has too much color gamut. Plus, the processor and especially GPU is much more advanced in S4 compared to note 2. You can't even dream to play latest high-end games on note 2. forget the ones that are going to be announced now. The S4 also has a much better camera. It will be updated to a more recent OS first. It has many kinds of sensors.
The note 2 has it's own advantages, it has bigger screen and better battery. also it has stylus that can come in handy.
Simple as hell, if you can afford S4, buy it. If note 3, it's even better or if you have more budget, wait for 10 days, S5 is coming. It's even better.
If you know maths :
S(n+1) is always better than note(n-1)
Note(n) is better than S(n+1)
And obviously S(n+1) is better than S(n)
note ( n+1) is better than note(n)
Put the values of n as 1,2,3,4 etc and get the results.
Like if i say n=3.
S4 is better than note 2
note 3 is better than s4
