Samsung J1 price revealed ahead of announcement

Samsung Android

Keen on having strong presence in each segment, the Samsung has another member of it's budget club prepping for launch. The Samsung J1 is not yet officially announced but a photo and a price tag have popped up on a Russian online store.

While the photo is obviously a placeholder, as we have seen the actual looks of the upcoming device, it's reasonable to expect that the price is correct. The quoted number is RUR 10,990 ($170), but prices in Russia are only indicative, at best, of global figures, with the questionable stability of the currency at the moment.

Anyway, for that amount of cash you get a generic low-end representative of the company's vast lineup. A 4.3-inch screen of 480x800px resolution is surrounded by generous bezels and a typical Samsung arrangement of sensors and buttons. A quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, paired with 1GB of RAM provides decent power for daily tasks, and the the rather low 4GB of built-in storage is thankfully expandable via microSD.

The smartphone will be available in no less than six versions, according to the user manual on Samsung's Russian site. Variations in the radio connectivity and dual SIM options will differentiate between the six.

The pictured price is of the single SIM LTE-enabled edition. The phone is expected to start shipping on January 23. Whether the omission of the Galaxy moniker is intentional or a mistake, we'll have to wait and see.
