Using the Pixon to text is a pleasure with the big touchscreen qwerty keyboard, fast and easy !

I love the phone because it is very simple to use, has a big screen with very big fonts (hate Nokia S60 microspic fonts)and a top camera and video.

If you are a heavy user who likes having tons of programs and games, buy a S60 Nokia, which are good phones but for another type of people.

Please help me clear my doubts for samsung pixon.

          1. Are you able you install opera mini on it? If possible, which version? Is it the latest?

          2. Is it possible to install google map and use it smoothly?

          3. What about the free java program for msn in e-messenger.net..

          4. Multi tasking possible? Eg. Running music on background while replying to sms or surfing web.

          5. Is it able to Stream video off mobile you tube.. From m.youtube.com..

Thanks.. It will help a lot of people who are still thinking which is the best mobile touch screen phone to buy

HI Nightstalker can you please answer this as you had used LG Renoir... that in video recording ( for a longer duration say 20 to 30 minutes)is there any audio lag observed. that is audio and video both are in sync with each other or not. Final buying depends on this.

hi , Pinoy_Phone+Whore Report Can you please give the points which you foung Pixon to be better as compared to LG Renoir. I am thinking to buy one of these two but not able to decide. I currently own KU 990 viewty of LG and have mixed reactions whether to continue with Lg or not.

some of you owned both the Omnia and the pixon and maybe the n95..
im hooked on the pixon!! but coming from the n95 im a bit concerned of getting bored after a while of playing with it due to the tot luck in costumisation...the inability of downloading various apps like msn, third party gps etc etc..
was it the case for u guys? was it easy to move from Symbian/win or android to this Samsung own software?
                      every help will be appreciated...
                      Thanks

Got a reply from Divx about Pixon Video Capabilities.
They recommend the Mobile Profile for encoding, (which is really bad quality) Here's their tips for testing.......

The DivX Mobile profile looks like this:

                          MPEG4 Simple Profile
                          B-VOP: Not Allowed
                          PAR: 1:1
                          QPel: Not Allowed
                          GMC: Not Allowed
                          Interlaced: Not Allowed
                          VBV Max Size: 655360
                          VBV Max Bitrate: 600000
                          Width: 320
                          Height: 240

The Pixon may be more capable but it is not tested beyond those specs. You might want to try the Home Theater profile, but that is probably beyond the capability of the Pixon.

There are several important factors to consider for smooth playback. Specifically, what VBV model is used during encoding? Your VGA resolution video might require very high bitrates during challenging scenes.

If you would like to test the limits of the Pixon's capabilities, I would recommend starting with a high quality, high resolution video that includes challenging scenes of high-motion panning. Create several test files. You can use 720x480 resolution since you know the Pixon supports that, but you should gradually increase the VBV parameters until the Pixon visibly stutters during playback. You should also try encoding with and without B-VOB frames.

You'll find the ideal VBV Size to lie between 655360 and 3145728. The VBV bitrate should be between 600000 and 4854000. You'll need to use software like VirtualDub which allows you to access the Command Line Interface for the DivX Encoder so you can adjust these parameters.

For example, I find the LG Viewty works well at 640x480 with these CLI options:

                          -bvn1 1300000 -vbv 2000000,1310720,1310720 -w -b 0 -windowed_fullsearch=2 -quantization=2 -enhance_texture=1

If I were you I'd really buy this phone! I have got it for about 4 weeks now and I still love it! I never had a touchscreen before, but i do like it. The first few weeks it was a bit strange but now I'm really used to it. Now the answers to your questions:

A: Yes, the Pixon allows you to send animations and smileys
B: No, you can choose between the ringtones that are on the phone or your own music. That's for messages and incoming calls. That's no problem. Only I had to search where I could change the ringtones. you can change it: menu --> settings --> phone profiles.
C: I think the Pixon is definiatly worth a 8,5/9.

                            With love,
                            Lyhnn (f)

                                  hi guys
i have had this phone for a week and i love it to bits but have to admit i'm a bit out of my depth.... my problem is that when i get a text they show up with as number and not a name.
I have my contacts saved to sim and phone but have opted to disply phone info only so they do not duplicate but every time i switch my handset off it reverts back to showing them as numbers instead of names and i have to go through all the settings again, deleting the phone contacts, copying them from sim to phone then saving the settings to show phone info ony.
Anyone know how i can fix this ?

Hi I am thinking of buying the Samsung M8800 Pixon in a couple of weeks and wondered whether :

A: Does it allow you to send animations and smileys?
B: I saw a question below... can you only have ring tones for your messages that are on the phone?
C: All in all.... What would u rate it out of ten?

I havent had a touch screen before so wanted to no some information first cuz i dont want to make the wrong decision lol
