I now have the pixon and although it has it's good points. It is still not worth gettin rid of my iPhone 3g 16gb yet. iPhone still has the best browser you can get it really is unsapassed. The pixon falls way behind. And the music player is hardly of iPod quality.
Can anyone tell me how to get the keyboard to appear when go onto google search. I get the search box but no keyboard.

Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970I think you'd better go for i900 Omnia, nice 5MP camera, decent video recording, everything! Iphone does not radio, no camera (well, that 2MP with no AutoFocus, no flash and no video recording is not considered as one these days!!) and some SW bugs. I think Omnia is the besst choice.

I wish it had wi-fi!!!! Then I would definantly buy it!!!! I hate the looks and UI of Renoir!!! But I think i900 OMNIA must be a good choice (don't care about the camera, 5MP or higher) but Pixon is nicer than Omnia. Any way, SAMSUNG rocks!!!

jonesdude, 12 Dec 2008thanks for the Offline mode tip. I knew MGMaps could do that but never had the patience to try... moreNo problem mate.

I'm not all too bothered about losing the Renoir, the looks (imo) aren't THAT great.
As long as it's faster to get round, and the camera is adequate (I'm only upgrading from the 3.2mp on the SE K800i), and i can install and use MGMaps, im sorted.
I can live without the wi-fi on Renoir lol.

Thanks for the help, and i'll report back with my Pixon on monday hopefully!

As for the renoir? I had that 1st but had to return it cos of some faults(search renoir thread for my posts on that) I do miss some parts of the Renoir, it's exterior was more cool and sleek, the menus looks cooler more unique. But after 2 days so far i prefer the Pixon. It's like the renoir with the style and coolness removed. The desktop area is fixed, i mean, You cant add loads of widgets and scroll up and down the desktop to access them. Pixon is Faster overall when flicking through menus, no momentum scrolling though. And the contacts selection could put you off, no typing first few letters, just scrolling through alphabetically with A,B,C etc on left hand bar. I like the browser better thatn LG's too, sure it's no Firefox but does the trick, i also use Opera Mini for some sites. Google Maps is easliy installed if your operator removes it.

You can save google map tiles at level 15 zoom (level 16 = thousands of files) with a tool from Mobile GMaps and then use Offline Mode. = FREE GPS.

I just sent back this phone :( The hardware is beautiful, the software however isn't. The operating system does not allow you to customise the phone as much as Windows Mobile, you cannot download apps (apart from a few Java ones..) and there were several bugs in the software which meant that I had to send it back. Also the default internet browser sucks, but this can be circumvented by installing Opera Mobile. The hardware is beautiful though, the screen is very responsive and the camera works very well. I don't use GPS but it is there and if you get the phone on T-Mobile in the UK, Google Maps is also loaded. The Messaging program is a bit crappy, you have to exit the program and click a different icon in order to start a new text. Why isn't there a "new message" button in the inbox? So yeah, the software needs a lot of work on, but despite this I am looking forward to getting the phone back once it is repaired :)

I reluctantly sent back a lg renoir, which I loved after previously having viewty, due to software problems and decided to try the pixon and Im sooo glad I did altough not as sleek and attractive exteroir as renoir everything else is a million times better. Very similar software to tocco with lots of added extra's, camera and flash much better than lg, better widgets, more stable accelerometer, qwerty keyboard much quicker and easier to use (my fat fingers kept hitting wrong letters on renoir, not the pixon tho), plus much more. Also for those who seem to think there is no GPS, your wrong mine has google maps installed which works effortlessly and no wifi- maybe an issue for some but for me in UK my 3G network is immense so no worries.

shm, 10 Dec 2008is there anyone telling me if i can use a third-party map app using its build in gps or not? Hi, I've actually got my own Pixon now. It does work as a Sat Nav device. Install Java application Mobile GMaps via wap and it detects the phone's internal GPS receiver and pinpoints your position on the map. The software isn't that great but it works. Needs good 3g service to download the maps quickly.

Also other java apps can be installed though using them with the touch screen can be tricky as most were written for buton phones.

*Warning to potential customers* As my phone is Orange branded they have deleted Google Maps (and some of the widgets) and replaced it with Orange Maps, which links to a page saying not compatible with his handset! Thanks Orange! Delete one of the phones major features and replace it with a non working chargable service, stupid. And what's more there's links and icons placed in the menus in several places to Orange Maps, what a waste of space. Buy generic handsets if possible.
