Can this tab fully replace a laptop? Are essential stuff like words, excel and powerpoint available? I don't think they are, though we can read them. I suppose we cannot do our work on this tab like we do on a laptop, or am I wrong?

I have had this device for a week now. I have been using the HTC Advantage x7510 which I have come to love for its large (5") screen. The Samsung Galaxy Tab (SGT) size is slightly too long for my liking, but I am willing to put up with it. I have the following negative views about the SGT:
1) The way it manipulates font sizes in emails is obnoxious. I find myself having to enlarge the font to be able to read even emails I had sent out. This is a real pain. I wish there was a way to make it leave email fonts in the same size, whether it was an original email or a reply. Worse still, I was appalled to see an email I had sent showing on my screen as just one infinite line with no word wrap! Most ugly.
2) The fact that the device does not get charged when plugged into a PC's USB port is ridiculous. In fact, the only way to charge it is to use Samsung's own adaptor that came with it. For example, if you use the Samsung USB cable and plug into a mains plug that has a USB port, it will not work. This is very limiting.
3) I compared the video colours with those from Apple's iPad and I was ashamed at the dull, blurred, dark and lifeless rendition of the SGT. I do not like Apple and have never bought any Apple device. But I was embarrassed at this comparison when a friend tried to make be believe the iPad has a better display.
I don't know yet if I will really stay with the SGT or if I have just wasted my money (500 GBP in London). So far, apart from looking cool, it has not turned me on.

- jae -, 16 Nov 2010The SGT is overpriced here in the Philippines at $838 (P41,000). iPad is a tad cheaper at $600... moreby the way, the Cherry Mobile Superion was released before the SGT was introduced here.
I forgot where I read that article but it says that the Superion is like a spoiler for the SGT.
With the price and with the freebies that comes with it, it's a steal!

But there's a tablet that was just released here with almost-the-same-as-SGT features at half the price. Try searching for Cherry Mobile Superion on Google. Oh, and at $399 (P19,990), it comes with a leather case, 4GB Micro SD card, a bluetooth headset and a very cheap Cherry Mobile P1 mobile priced at $15.

I have played it in the shop and I like it a lot but the only thing stopping me to get one is the screen size. I am a anti-apple guy but I have to say Mr Jobs was right, for tablet 7" is a bit small. I can't wait for the 10" version of Tab.

Loved my iPad but i"ve rather buy Samsung instead… due to lots of restrictions on iPad and not many apps in Apple Store for iPad unless its JB.
Anyone knows if Galaxy Tab will fully sync with Mac?

went for training for the galaxy tab..top notch..
android 2.2tablet with 7inch screen..hsdpa/hsupa plus dual band..1ghz processor..layar and swype apps pre-loaded and e-reading....no words to explain the fuctionality of this fone...

you are absolutely right concerning the ipad!
i had one and sold it and used the cash to purchase the Galaxy Tablet
this is so superior to the ipad
ok the build quality of the ipad was unblemished but thats abot it!!! far too restricted cant do this cant do that
cant extend the memory, no flash support, no calls, no camera,
no video calling, plus it doesnt have all the fun stuff like being able to change font styles etc etc
A big applause to the Galaxxy Tablet which is far more acceptable in portability
you wont get laughed at being seen out and about reading ya EBooks on this thing!!
