The specs sheet already answered that, yes, it has Wi-Fi hotspot.
No, it does not have Wi-Fi Direct, that functionality was not introduced until later devices.

ehm... if you want to use it as a phone, then there is something, that you should know... you should talk in headphones unless you want everybody to hear your call :D so.. there is no loudspeaker on the top...

I am pulling my hair out because the browser always closes when opening any website with lots of Flash ad, due to it's lack of RAM. So it's useless. I only use it for game like Temple Run and Flappy Bird nowadays.

Upgraded from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.6 via Kies(official). Now programs like Skype and YouTube are supported which was not the case with Froyo .

chuck, 05 Jul 2014what if in case it hangs? and its starting to get hot?if always hang, try to turn on safe mode on your device. it will disable the 3rd party application from application manager. dont have to worry because this steps will not delete your data or uninstall the apps. always clear ram and close running applications from task manager. uninstall any 3rd party that can cause harm to your tablet. you can upgrade firmware to enhance performance. last choice, do factory reset/hard reset.

donna mc, 11 Jul 2014HELLO My battery died after an hour! bought it yesterday 2nd hand. does this mean i need a new... moremaybe the issues due to the motherboard or software corrupted or 3rd party applications from google playstore. always clear your ram and close/end application that running on task manager. also, if your device got any issue, try to turn on safe mode on your device. it will avoid your battery drain too fast. if still you facing the same trouble, go to samsung service centre.

mae, 17 Jul 2014hi how can i upgrade the os from froyo to kitkat? thankscheck software update/firmware/FOTA on the tab setting by go to setting>about device>software update or update firmware.
you can check is it your device can upgrade to kit kat version or not.
other than that, you can check using samsung kies. Install samsung kies on pc/laptop first from samsung website. After successful install, there will be notification from samsung kies inform you which version that your device can upgrade.

4.4.4 kitkat is the best OS for the galaxy tab so far. There's plenty of tutorial in google how to install it. Just remember to follow the instructions very carefully. Once on kitkat, switching to ART runtime (under developer options) resolved my battery issues. No more sudden battery jump, drain, and charging problem. Tab also functions smoother on ART
