4.4.4 kitkat is the best OS for the galaxy tab so far. There's plenty of tutorial in google how to install it. Just remember to follow the instructions very carefully. Once on kitkat, switching to ART runtime (under developer options) resolved my battery issues. No more sudden battery jump, drain, and charging problem. Tab also functions smoother on ART

This is the first samsung galaxy,,i have it,,and until now,it still work and i have android kitkat 4.4.4 by cyanogenmod,,, :)

i have it since september 2011 and it stil works today with latest cyanogenmod 11 (KitKat 4.4.4)
i am very happy with my tablet
battery time went down to about 4-6 hours of power usage, but thats okay, because it is so old...
at least i can run most apps from the market including Photoshop Touch
with 512mb ram with about 128mb available for user
this tablet is quite slow with more than 3 apps running at the same time... but its OK for everyday use
there is problem with video recording on android over version 4.0 and Skype crashes on calls. but it's not a problem for me

My Dad handed it down to me after he got an HTC. It's very comfortable and fluid. I even walk around the public with it. Since samsung technically ditched it, I recommend CyanogenMod too for better handling
