I just bought this phone last week and there's no problem encountered up to now (thankfully). Regarding with your questions, this phone has a privacy lock with your messages, files, log, contacts, calendar, memo, tasks and email. The software for me is fast but it lags a bit when you are listening music with your headset but it haven't bothered me that much.
I do recommend that you buy this phone.
