Samsung teases Galaxy S24 Ultra camera with AI image stacking, improved 4K zoom

Samsung Android

Samsung posted a video revealing new capabilities of the ISOCELL 200 MP sensor, powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset by Qualcomm. There isn't a smartphone on the market with such hardware, so this is clearly a teaser for the upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Here's the 60-second video and keep reading for a breakdown of what's inside.

Zoom Anyplace automatically tracks subjects in a video but also keeps capturing full-frame zoomed-out footage of the entire scene. This means the sensor essentially allows capturing two 4K video streams - of the cropped area and one of the whole view, allowing you to change the framing after you are done shooting. And it will work both in 2x and 4x zoom.

The feature is also said to automatically track subjects and keep them focused in real-time as it moves around the scene in any direction, including getting closer to the lens, and all of this maintaining the 4K resolution.

The E2E (end-to-end) AI Remosaic is a new way of image processing. Currently, the ISOCELL sensor processes photos sequentially – color by color, layer by layer. The new solution is parallel: color, tone, noise reduction, sharpening, HDR, demosaicing, white balance and lens shading correction will all happen at the same time.

This improvement will increase capture speed twice, leading to less processing time and better image quality.

Samsung said all features are “for illustrative purposes only,” but we believe they will be on the Ultra because it was confirmed to feature the new Snapdragon flagship chipset and a 200MP sensor. We will know whether this is true at the next Unpacked, reportedly taking place in the first weeks of next year.
