Samsung Android

Over the past few weeks we've heard a lot about Samsung's upcoming tri-fold smartphone, its direct competitor to Huawei's Mate XT. And yesterday during its Unpacked event where it unveiled the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra (and teased the Galaxy S25 Edge as well), the company pretty much confirmed its plans to release such a device.

It was one of those "blink and you'll miss it" things, where for just a few seconds during the presentation, the images you can see below appeared, clearly showing the tri-fold form factor as being part of Samsung's future alongside the Project Moohan XR headset and a yet-unannounced pair of smart glasses.

According to the latest rumors on the matter, Samsung's first tri-fold smartphone will have a limited production run of only about 200,000 units. It will apparently arrive in the third quarter of the year, so between July and September. That lines up perfectly with Samsung's annual foldable device launch event, which in 2024 took place in July.

Samsung Display has already showcased two tri-fold screens, one that takes a Z-like shape similar to the Mate XT and the other that folds like a G so that there's no part of the screen exposed when the phone is fully folded.

The outline shown in Samsung's Unpacked presentation is of a Z-style foldable, like the Mate XT, so that may come first. We'll have to wait and see. Do however brace yourselves for the pricing of this thing - it will definitely be Samsung's most expensive foldable ever.

Folding the screen once may have introduced quite a few challenges to overcome, but folding twice? I worry about the longevity of such a form factor.

"The outline shown in Samsung's Unpacked presentation is of a Z-style foldable, like the Mate XT, so that may come first." Well that's a shame. The Flex G concept looks a lot more interesting.

I just love Samsung for their boldness... Linda realised a year ago only reason why foldables became synonymous with them is their wide range of availablity in all regions, cause their galaxy book series is not nearly as widely available
