Mobile-review just finished its review on Samsung U600. They think it's a nice fashion phone that has questionable ergonomics.
Recently tested the Samsung U600!
First ill would like to say that ive tested a lot of phones, nokia, sonyericsson, samsung etc etc..
The u600 phone feels great holding it in your hand, thin and comfortable.. it doesn't feel "flimsy" at all when opened, but could feel a little more like that when closed(!)
The soft keyes are great, probably its a mather of convinience.. because u maybe have to spend a day or two to get used to them!
The camera is rather good, many settings, and are very well protected when the phone is shut closed! Also has flash and macro!
Ive heard that some people are complaining about the keypad, that it doesn't feel sturdy and have no pressure.. this isnt right, it has just the right amount so you will feel when u press down a key..!
The menus are also much better then on earlier samsung-phones. I think they haved stolen some of the features from the recent SE-phones - wich is rather good - i think!
Overall.. a good phone, nice features. Feels good in your hand, has all the right equpment (rds radio, b&o-speakers, 3.2mpix camera, ability to play java games etc..)
Its one of the best "slider-phones" in the market right now! Ill enjoy mine :)

I'v had the U600 for att week now. I bring my phone everywere because my job. I must always have it with me, and i'm talking and texting ALOT.
The touchkeys feels like a dream when using it, i love it very much, it's so simple when u got used to it (took half a day).
The slimness of the phone is perfect. U don't care if u got the phone i ure pocket. It's so perfect.
My old phone SE W800i was a good phone, but U600 is better. The battery is ok, not fantastic but enough for me.
The MP3 sound is better than my prev phone. But the sound of the standardsignals is not that good.
The slider is so solid and feels very expensive. But my phone "wobbles" a little bit when opened, but nothing that disturbs me.
It's sad that the Alarm doesn't sounds then the phone is on silent.
But there are so many cool features in the U600 that makes u forget about the alarm thing.
This is simply the coolest phone i ever have had. I had the choice of buying wathever phone i wanted (the company of mine is paying). And i couldn't choose any better phone.
Maybe this phone isn't everybodys cup of coffe.. but it's surely mine! :)
(sorry for the bad english)
Maz, one might say you're a bit biased. :D Don't get me wrong as I fully agree that Samsung's design team is doing a great job whereas the design team of, say, Nokia isn't on the same level.U600 is perfect example of this: slim, cool-looking mobile with every detail in design carefully thought through.
HOWEVER... right know Samsung is compromising ergonomics and usability to achieve excellent design. 1) The slimness. The fact is that if you make a slider using plastic and make it 10-12mm thick, chances are this mobile is going to feel flimsy and wobbly.D900 certainly feels like that and U600, being slimmer, apparently also feels like this. 2) The keys. Touch keys and a flat keypad make mobiles look futuristic and cool but they aren't exactly ergonomic. Many people feel the touch keys are annoying and for those who SMS a lot that flat keypad with no tactile difference going from key to key is slow and not easy to use. 3) Battery life. One of the drawbacks of these ultra slim mobiles is that the battery life isn't good. On U600, the battery life isn't a catastrophy but I'm told on a longer trip one simply can't listen to mp3s without battery running empty pretty soon.
I'm going to be honest and say I've not tested U600. However, I've tested D900 and spend hours upon hours reading every last word people have wrote about U600. My findings? Well I totally understand and respect everyone here who loves their U600. But the fact remains that there are just too many comments saying those exact three issues with this mobile I'm saying. So there must be some truth to them.
Of course, not everyone needs an ergonomic sturdy mobile. Some people use this as their second mobile or whatever, and in those cases looks and features are more important than ergonomics and usability. However, I use only one mobile and, being a 24 year old guy who likes to go clubbing, run or whatever with his mobile in his pocket, U600 is not the mobile for me. I need something that looks good and has features, but that also is nice to use.
Right now, my eye is set on Sony Ericsson S500i which is cooler than U600 and is a bit thicker. I'm Samsung fan for sure, but until they stop making ultra slim mobiles (or at least start to apply metal the way LG is doing with Shine) and start putting tactile keypads and actual keys (not touch keys) in their fashion mobiles, I'm choosing from another brand.
BTW, I'm not saying U600 is a terrible mobile. It isn't. But you have to admit it's not the easiest mobile to use nor does feel sturdy. I won't admit it? Well in that case, I dare you... Find an old Samsung D500 (excellent slider: cool and cool to use) and use it and then use U600. After that, if you tell me that U600 was easier and more comfortable to use, you're lying. And I don't have to test U600 to know it.
For alhip
I have both phones, so my opinions are:
(1) The SE video cam is better & easier to use.
(2) The U600 does play java games
The SE is more solid all rounder phone, the U600 is more as a back-up secondary line phone (I wouldn't recommend using it as a business fone - too delicate).
Got two questions!!
1, how do u store sms and/or received files directly on to memory card?
2, anyone knows of a good GPS-program that actually will work on Samsung?!
/najks
just to find out..anyone out who owns this phone know whether it can play java games and how the camera for the phone? izzit better than tt of SE k800i or N73? and what kind of video format can it play? WMV? thks in advance =)
I just got it. How do I setup the WAP for use with Cingular? I also want to setup email access but it does not have any profile for connections for Cingular
You have to press the middle button to unlock it and then press the END call button.
How do you save directly to the memory card? When Im sent music through bluetooth it will only save it to the phone memory. How can I change it to always save to the memory card?
Thanks
My U600 slide part (when closed) wobbles when slightly touched. It doesnt feel solid as do the D500/600. I have to hold the phone so delicately. Does anyone know if this can be repaired?
And to respond to a previous post, the END CALL button on my U600 does not work.
As far as all samsungnites is concerned including me, our phones are the best because of the designes which is ultimately exceptional and the unique features which set us apart from nokians and sonyericcsians.
Now these nokians and sonyericcdsians are scrambling because of the new ultra edition II of samsung which can compete in terms of functions and user interface friendliness. For that these people are looking any bad issues they can get for the ultra edition II so that they can claim they are still "the best" (how pathetic) in terms of User interface and not the design because nokians and sonyericcsian are underdogs.
So to all SAMSUNGNITES, our phone especially the ultra editions are the best and we know we give our confidence to these phones because we are the same users for its uniqueness.
Long live SAMSUNGNITES.
