Harman, a Samsung-owned audio electronics company, announced the acquisition of Roon - a music player platform for audiophiles, best known for its usability across multiple devices in multiple rooms, regardless of their brand.

Harman owns audio brands such as AKG, dbx, JBL, and Soundcraft and operates globally. It has been part of Samsung since 2017, and we’ve seen the company’s know-how implemented in Samsung earphones and smartphones.

Dave Rodgers, President of Lifestyle Division at Harman, commented that the deal is part of the company’s identity to “create exceptional audio experiences” for partners and consumers worldwide. Enno Vandermeer, CEO of Roon, stated that combining forces will gain Roon the scale, resources, and reach of a global technology leader.

The brand will keep its independence to invest in the business’s growth and future. Still, it will bring its expertise in data management and consumer engagement capabilities to all Harman partners, including Samsung Mobile.

I still occasionally "borrow" my sister's old LG G4, turn it on, then using it just to play music locally / YouTube / Apple Music. :)

I find Sony to be a good replacement, I've been using it more and more than my A&K DAP. But their phone is somewhat overpriced and the software support is pretty bad.
