Apple iOS Rumors Samsung

Apple is working on the first foldable iPhone, and its folding screen will be made by Samsung Display. Interestingly, a new rumor claims Samsung's panel for the folding iPhone will have a feature that the Galaxy Z Fold series of devices doesn't have.

Basically, the touch layer will be integrated into the panel itself, and this will reduce the overall thickness of the assembly by about 19%. The weight is reduced as well.

Additionally, through new production processes Samsung Display has "greatly" improved color reproduction and brightness, including peak brightness. All of this was done in order to meet Apple's desired levels of thickness and brightness of course, as Samsung Display really wanted to win this contract, understandably given how lucrative its relationship with Apple has been over the years.

It wouldn't be surprising to us if Samsung follows suit and releases a foldable of its own with this technology, but it also wouldn't surprise us if it didn't - for a long time the panels it supplied to Apple for iPhones had symmetrical bezels on all sides including the bottom, while its own flagships didn't. Cost concerns are always a thing, let's not forget, while for Apple they probably matter less given the foldable iPhone's rumored price.
