In response to Phoenix81's question, Sharp claims that the phone utilizes what is referred to as USIM sim card technology (saying that it is incompatible with any other GSM network's SIM cards) and if my history of understanding Japan's desire to keep their domestic phones out of international users' hands, this is the epidomy. I've been using the Sharp J-SH53 in Tokyo (the predecessor of the V801SH) and I've loved it. It has all the bells and whistles (minus the Bluetooth and 2.x megapixel cam), but it does have the Music player, OpenWave browser, Java support and the barcode reader everyone keeps referring to. Trust me, I hardly ever used it. The idea came about when people would put web addresses in the Q-pic format and put it on websites or business cards (as it was intended) and avoid having to type stuff in (remember T9 doesnt exist for the most part in Japan), however I never really saw that catch on in Japan.
If anyone ever gets this phone unlocked and working on a U.S. GSM network, please let me know as I would be up for getting one! (Although my SH53 still does function nicely as a digital camera and SD-Audio player and a nifty remote controller for my TV and VCR.)
Looking forward to its release later this month...
Does anyone know, if the Sharp V801SH will never come out of japan?
what means barcode reader?what can he do?
does anyone know?
I want to buy this phone urgently.Does anyone know where can I find one?
this phone is sick i want to get it how much is it and could i change my gx10 for this phone and how much will it cost
I dont think so, it's not released in Japan before april :)
does anyone have this fone?
This one has a bigger screen. V801SH has a 2'4 inch screen, and GX30 has a 2'2 inch screen. Picture quality is the same. There might be other things to that are diffrent other than screen size and the 3G band, but i cant think of it right now..
I think V1000 is better. It is more efficient.
tell me... which one is better, this or gx 30???
No..your english is a mistake...
Ha ha ha. I laugh about Sharp! In the “Brands by rate” on the second place? That must be a mistake!
It's only for the Japanese market and probably doesn't have an English menu. It would be strange if it has an English menu thoug, since Sharp is releasing GX30 on Vodafone with almost identical features here in Europe.
has it got a good camera anyone?
USB is great for transfer the photos to pc
SHARP shoud of stayed with the GX series!!!
3G phones dont necessary have to support video calling as seen by 3's range of phones. Some only support video msgs but is on the 3g network utilising its functions.
the screens on sharp mobiles are crystal clear and bright.best screens i've seen so far! u can see each and every detailed feature. here is the site which shows the screen of sharp v601sh mobile:

this phone is such a boring design!
And one more thing, 3G phones also need high speed connection. ok? Still think it is a bit outdated witout Bluetooth too... :oÞ
