It's nice, but the battery didn't last the first day and it doesn't have voice activated dialing or ringer ID. A camera would be nice but is not a necessity. I called Siemens to ask about a possible software update to add some features. They said that the device was made with "corporate users" in mind and after a survey those features were deemed more of a liability than an asset. As a result ringer id and voice activated dialing could be added by an update, but Siemens will never put it out.
Desperately need info. I love my sx56 and dont own the sx66 yet. I really need to upgrade but I need information about the phone issues. I just don't feel comfortable enough to downgrade to just a phone or have two devices again, but the sx56 phone portion bites. I have bad reception. I can't connect to live areas quickly so I always have to redial. This always chews up extra minutes when I didn't even get a connection or a "click" noise. Is this problem solved with the new faster device? I really want answers before I upgrade and if I choose a camera model (which I don't really need), will I actually not receive the benifit of having wi-fi? Sick of buying sx56's need new phone does anyone have answers if the new faster sx66 2003 se has a better phone performance then older models? I plan on buying the sx66 next month yet nobody I know has answers. HELP
You can purchase this SAME exact phone with the camera and also video it is called the I-MATE PD2K. It is much more expensive, but if you are looking for those features, this is the phone for you.
The phone may not have a camera, but it does have a WiFi LAN adapter. The Verizon Audiovox version has the camera but no WiFi LAN. I prefer having WiFi over a camera. I had a camera phone, but the camera did not benefit me personally. As for voice dialing, pickup Microsoft Voice Command. It works great for dialing and also accepts other application commands. For example, you can ask about the battery life.
For those of you who are interested...
Voice dialing is available through the ATA/Cingular network... (Even though it does cost an extra $4/month).
I do agree that with phone types as big and 'clunky' as these to hold up to your ear, it would be nice to have that capability ON the unit itself... you can probably buy the software, but it would probably take up alot of space (unless you could 'train' the software to your voice on your PC, then migrate the profile parameters for your vocal inflections onto your PDA to recognize your speech patterns. Only thing is, I wouldn't want any hacker to get ahold of those speech patterns ;-). Just thinking out loud.
I'd be happy to purchase a pc phone w/ out a camera. Do you think I want to be proving where I'm at everyday to my lady by sending her freaking pictures!? Thumbs up to no camera phones!!!
Why can't these "smart phones" include voice dialing? Dialing is cumbersome enough on these devices anyway, why not make it easier with voice dialing?
A lot of PDAs don't come with camera because some high-powered users work in document sensitive workplaces. For instance, you'll never see a Blackberry that has a camera.
Why is everyone so damn worried about a camera on this device? Buy it for what it is. Most camera phones are lacking at best.
Has anyone heard about these being pulled for software issues?
Is there anybody who tell me what is the " Cingular" s mean? I live in Turkey and no company bring it here I am planning to order it on the internet Can it be any drawback because of Cingular ? Thanks.......
Nice phone and PDA, but slow.
Disappointed to find that it does NOT support EDGE networks.
Keyboard is nice but is annoying when typing alpha and numeric.
Battery life is short, I can't find an extended life battery (yet)
If you can't wait to get the phone then don't. If you can wait, wait for a version that support EDGE.
It's a perfect phone except that it doesn't have a camera. I wish it has a video lens and a 1M pixel camera. I love it very much, much much better than the iPAQ h6315 that I used to have.
Anyone know where I can buy this phone in Canada (Toronto area)? I own the SX56 and the SX66 seems like a winner!
why make a handset that doesnt have a camera seems a bit weird siemens always seem to bring out superb phones with important features missing. this handset will sell to business people but will be very expensive and not worth the buy.get an o2 xda instead same type of thing and has a camera
It's Great PDA phone. The only weakness is only : it doesn't have a camera feature.
This is the best I've seen to date, some learning curve but a lot better than other mobile/internet/cellular systems to date. Singular covers the U S Virgin Islands/great phone/blue tooth headset combo will see how well it works on the mainland in a couple weeks.
Actually the phone is not based on the Samsung. HTC builds the reference device, the blue angel. Many have adopted it, Siemens. Personally I am happy to find this device without the phone. I don't need the phone. As an amateur photographer, I find even the best of cell phone cameras to be horrible. I have more than one excellent camera. I needed an excellent phone and PDA and the Siemens with its full range of communication capabilities fits the bill.
Question: According to the manual I should be able to copy wav files to the windows/ring folder of the device. I have done that and can see that they are in that file but can't see the files on my ringtone list . What's the problem. Plese email me if you know how to do this.
Cigular has Car charges for these now. Also bluetooth update is out from cingular. Just take it in and they will update it.
I just got it not too long ago and i have to say well done. I love everything about it. To all of you who complain about the no camera thing, have you ever used a phone with camera. I have yet to see one with acceptable quality.
