Qualcomm Android Announcement

Qualcomm announced its latest chipset today, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. The platform comes as an evolution of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 sharing its single prime Cortex-X4 core for the CPU and on-device AI capabilities with the flagship 8 series.

The new chip promises 15% improved CPU and 45% improved Adreno GPU compared to its predecessor as well a 5% reduction in power consumption.

This is the first chip in the Snapdragon 7-series to have on device generative AI capabilities. It supports a wide range of LLMs (large language model) and LVMs (large vision model) such as Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, Gemini Nano, and Zhipu ChatGLM.

The AI features should bring better virtual assistants and create never-before-seen content with incredible efficiency. Entertainment should be made accessible everywhere with multi-language translation and transcription.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is built on the 4nm process technology, and the prime Cortex-X4 core of the CPU is clocked at 2.8 GHz. There are also 4 performance cores (likely A720) at 2.6 GHz and 3 efficiency units (Cortex-A520) at 1.9 GHz.

The modem is Snapdragon X63 5G with FastConnect 7800 mobile connectivity system and 3GPP Release 17 5G. Downlink over NR is up to 4.2 Gbps and phones with the chip will be able to work on all older cellular standards.
