Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson unveiled two new handsets that show its commitment to preserving the environment and reducing pollution. Sony Ericsson C901 GreenHeart and Sony Ericsson Naite are the two flagships of their GreenHeart program that should soon roll out into a broader portfolio.

The Sony Ericsson C901 GreenHeart is functionally identical to the original Sony Ericsson C901, which only recently started shipping.

Coming with a 13mm-thick stylish body and a 5 megapixel camera, the C901 GreenHeart proves that "going green" should compromise neither the design nor the functionality of your cell phone.

Along with some advanced camera functionality, the new C901 GreenHeart features a 262K color QVGA TFT display and has 3G support, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Its other highlight features include include FM radio, built-in accelerometer, M2 slot.

Sony Ericsson C901 GreenHeart will be available in Ocean White color in selected markets from Q2 of the year (that means any moment now) at an yet undisclosed price.

The Sony Ericsson Naite is an offer for green-minded people on a lower budget. It comes with a 2 megapixel camera, USB and Bluetooth support. It will also have a 2.2” QVGA display, 3G support and a microSD card slot.

Sony Ericsson Naite will be available from Q3 in Vapour Silver and Ginger Red color features. Unfortunately its pricing remains unknown for now.

Both new handsets will come with electronic, in-phone manual to replace the standard paper version, saving over 90 percent of paper used in the retail packaging. Their packaging boxes will be reduced as well to minimize the environmental impact of transporting the final product.

Additionally, at least 50% of the bodies of the GreenHeart duo are made of recycled plastic. The Sony Ericsson C901 GreenHeart will also come with waterborne paint and the newly introduced MH300 greener headset in the box, which is made from 100 percent recycled plastic.

Meanwhile we got the heads up of the Sony Ericsson PlayNow arena (Sony Ericsson latest movie and music distribution service) actually expanding its functionality. The new stuff that will be offered is apps - so say hello to Sony Ericsson AppStore. Starting this month 38 different Sony Ericsson mobile phones in 13 countries will be able to download mobile applications by simply paying a visit to the PlayNow arena (and perhaps paying a bit more for the apps themselves).
