Just a quick review on the first impressions of my k800i.
CALLS...Very clear, no problems.
FINNISH...Very impressive, strong and sturdy, the keypad is slightly rubberised but still very good and feels responsive. The front is finnished in a brushed steal effect and the back has a velvety rubbery feel to it.
SCREEN...Fantastic!..very bright and clear and quite big, about 4 or 5mm bigger than the k750/w8ooi type.
CAMERA...Wow! brilliant looking results so far, only used it with everything set on the auto mode but for most people that is all you will need, for the more advanced photographers there is a whole host of options.
VIDEO...Yes it's true!..it's probibly only slightly better than the k750/w8ooi if not the same, but it still looks good in full screen playback and large screen.
MUSIC...Very good, as good as my mates W800i and way better than my outgoing D500, a very meaty sound and loud.
TO USE...Having never owned a SE before, i was amazed how easy it was for me to pick things up with this phone, the menu system seems to have been well thought out and have a logical feel to it.
STYLE...For me SE have got this phone just right, sophisticated and stylish to look at. Not a big fan of the white phones of this world or the big and bulky and odd looking nokia's that seem to just keep coming out.
CONCLUSION...Just about 10 out 10 in every area for me, probibly only thing that i would have expected, was a better video quality like the 30fps that some phone's have, but it still looks ok in full screen playback. Overall 9.5 /10 well done!!
Still using the SE K800i and the battery seems good till now, but will give my final judgement after i use it for a couple of days so
that i can be fair and accuarte in my judgement.
You might be right about picture compression, but that does not change the fact that pictures taken with my Nokia N80 in landscape mode were BETTER than pictures taken with the same settings
on my Sony Ericsson K800i. I have tried again and again and compared pictures from both phones and N80 wins in
landscape mode, but SE K800i wins in Macro mode, i have nothing against SE i am just telling my own experience and
i wish i was wrong, thus i am very disappointed in SE K800i.
Yes my settings are dual mode but the WiFi is only on on/need, and yes i have tried before switching to the GSM mode only, and
yes the battery life is longer but still not that much of a difference maybe only 30% increase in operating time when in GSM only mode.
Just wished that the battery life would be better, hoping that the upcoming Nokia N83 will correct these problems.
at 580$ final price and unlocked, it wont last at all in any store. This is the price in EuroGSM markets in Romania. JEEESUS... only 580$
I visited a Phones4U in Hove (near Brighton, England) and got to play with a K800i. Comments: a) Excellent fit and finish, except the keypad, but it's not terrible. b) Surprise feature of two function buttons at top (next to video call camera), that on this phone displayed the last photo taken and the photo viewer. c) Camera operates like a regular digicam, only negative being that as far as I could tell, you cannot FORCE the flash on, something that is important to reduce shadows when shooting portraits into the sun. It's nice to just slide the lense cover to fire up the camera. Very cool! d) GUI is very fast. e) Predictive text is smart, even guessing the NEXT word you are going to type based on the last one you entered! (Spooky!) f) On the Vodafone model, the two small buttons either side of the joystick are for placing and making a call, not the same as shown on web pics. (Great!) g) Deal at Phones4U is £40/m for 500 mins, 250 texts and Stop the Clock. I don't work for any of the above companies, just reporting direct from the battlefield. Unless SE P990 arrives, I'm getting one of these sexy puppies.
jessus if you have no idee about something don't talk
to dr : the n80 dosent compres the pictures right the size of the pictures is waiiiii to big i have a h5 and tock picture with a s3is and nighter wold of taken such big sized pictures in 4 mpx not 3.2
nokia dose't know how to compres them teh k800 dos becouse of the envolment of sony
the k800 camera is beter in evrey way posible it is no comparing them
to crix the same i say to you :don't talk if you are a noob
the so is not the same in k800 as it is in the d500
the k800 hase by far the most advancet java so in the mobile comunaty
it suports setings for camera wich you only find in cameras like exposure setings(wich belive if you know what you are doing the expouser seting isss wondorul)and you can control evrey aspect of your camera
and let's not forget than now it is posible to multi task (this is a first for a java phone)
i can't belive that people stil buy stuff with out knoyng a single thing about it
java games are at lest the same if not beter as the ones in the symbian phonesprograms is posible to instal in both tipes but the symbians are more advancet and browsing both tipe of phones are very god at browsing
SE K800. to me its a bog standard phone with a decent camera. WOW! Take the camera away and tell me what it can do what the N80 cant. The menu system is just like my D500. The n80 is far superior, apart for the camera and the battery life. Am not a fan of either phones but the N80 comes on top for me
It was Sony who delayed the shipment to O2. Although thats been sorted now! Great phone!
dr you charge your phone twice a day??!
i got the n80 and it last 1 day of full use and 2 - 3 without the dualmode search and wifi off.
Thanks for your sharing. And have you tried the same use with K800 that you do with N80? If with N 80 twice/day so how is K800?
just ordered my upgrade on o2 for the k800i was told by some useless bird that it would be in stock today so was to ring back this morning to order. How wrong was i ordered it this morning and surprise surprise OUT OF STOCK o2= rubbish if it wasnt for the fact i am on a 750 mins text and mins contract i would leave. Just a quickie guys does the k800i have a good video camera on it or is it poopie
ij uust got this phone.and i also have w900i. w900i loudspeaker is suxx.but k800i..wow!!!!
i want to trade in my w900 with w810i.because loudspeaker w810 sounds better then w900.
and OFCOURSE I LOVE k800. and i have k800 and w810
Also another proof of the picture size for the SE K800i is that the availabe memory on my phone is 58mb and it says 70 photos left on the 3.2 Megapixel fine settine, thus 58mb/70 photos equals 830 Kb average size of a photo!!!
Just to proove that the Nokia Nt0 photos in landscape mode are better, i saw that the average file size of a picture taken is 1500kb - 2450kb for the Nokia N80, while for the sony ericsson K800i the average file size of a picture taken
was 750kb - 1300kb, and both phones were on 3 Megapixel and picture quality was fine!!!!!
Sorry forgothe to add that the battery life in the Nokia N80 is terrible! i charge it twice a day, but i do use it a lot, and use video camera and the music player!
Following earlier comments from, I would like to add more:
The camera is very disappointing only macro mode, and when u use flash the picture becomes a little bit blurred.
No image stabilizer it is only a video stabilizer which has no function at all, took 2 videos one with it on and the other off, result: no difference at all!
Picture quality is equal to Nokia N80 or even the same! except macro mode is impressive in the K800i
I am honest, i love sonyericsson and had the k750, W800i and W810i but the K800i should have been better.!!!!
this phone is brill anyone who liked the k750 but needed 3g for signal like my self this is the phone good camara quick at moving around menu looks great and not like a brick like the nokia phones
"the flash of the k800 its not that useful in night just with close pictures, if you want to take pics for a wide area it will not work that nice, only if the room its in total darkness"
evean a profesional camera can't take good pictures in low light with flash
if there is total darknes it will work perfect(this is normal evean for a profesional camera with a very very strong flash)
