I feel your pain about useless banter with posts around here. I will try to answer your questions as best I can.
After owning my K850i for two weeks I just sold it on ebay last night (already received payment). =)
If money was not an issue I would have kept it but I couldn't justify the cost for merely an upgraded 5MP camera. I went back to my W800i which I have always been extremely happy with.
Some obvious upgrades over the W800i are the camera, the screen size & resolution, 30fps video, and very important to me was the loudness of the ear speaker.
All in all I don't mind using my W800i and felt like I abandoned it. It has been through hell with me, run over by a car, drenched, dropped about a hundred times, and still works flawlessly. I figured I would get a little more use and more of my $500 I spent on it back in 10/05.
Back to my advice... if you want something new and really cool looking with good functionality then by all means, get the K850i! The buttons are somewhat hard to get used to however and frankly I never perfected the phone within the two weeks I had it. The three touch points get pressed accidentally very often. Probably the biggest annoyance was how gross the phone looked because of constant fingerprints, and not just on the screen but the entire phone.
My first thought when I first held it was it didn't feel as solid and sturdy as I thought it would. When I picked up my W800i again for the first time in two weeks it was a noticeable and welcome difference.
Do you have a Sony Ericsson phone right now and if so which model? My bottom line advice would be if money is not a concern then get the K850i and you shouldn't be disappointed just because of the sheer functionality. I admit I will miss the opportunity of taking 5MP pictures wherever I go without having to also carry around my Sony camera. However if money is somewhat of a concern I would hold out until the price comes down.
Its price is coming down pretty fast,
by x-mas K850+GPS accessory +8GB SD card = N95 8GB price
Huh, the camera is not that good:( I have returned mine. I am back to the N95. I will wait till SE brings a s60 cell :)
I m planning 2 buy SE K850. If anyone is having this model then can anyone please tell me what about its sound quality? Is it loud & clear or not? I will b grateful 2 u.
Hi Guys and Gals,
I am not sure if you should believe those so called SE fans review in the forum. I was in douubt and did some research by browsing thru reviews from other sites. Please see the results as follow yourselves.
Tell me what you think. I thnk there are more + than -.
the phone contruction has a solid feel and the keys are hard plastic with good feedback.
The k850i is the most capable camera phone out there. I know there are tons of settings that you can adjust for best results. But who's gonna have a bunch of ppl posing for a pic or even better yet a girlfriend or 2 flashing or kissing and go "hold on I've got to adjust my white balance and my ISO settings." I'm just saying that at this point it's images are not any better than other 5mp camera phones out there and hardly photos better than the k800 and k810 models. The xenon flash is its only edge. Maybe a firmware update will allow for its full potential. If I've read right in other forums the k800's intitial release didn't produce photos near what it is capable of today. And yes, I'm a diehard SE fan.
i just get tis phone last few days..can some body help me with this camera quality??
Can anyone who currently owns the K850i, can you tell me whether the keys on the keypad are rubber or plastic?
I popped into an O2 store to have a look at the size and felt up the keyboard (ohh..err!), and found the keys a tough plastic! Now, this could be so the dummy phone doesn't break due to customer wear-&-tear I suppose, or it is the true keypad material!
Can any users give me an accurate description of what its like to use the keypad, say, when texting at speed, please?
For all those Filipino people who are waiting for the original K850i, I mean from the Sony Ericsson store....it will be released 2nd week of November. It just passed through the NTC check up. And for your info..those who bought in greenhills etc....you will not receive any warranty or return/fixing of ericsson...sory for you guys...price range would be from 24K-26K...and by the way, it will be released first in Sony Ericsson north edsa...oh yeah! and i'll be the first one! woohoo! and also! for those who shipped theirs....it will also not have warranty in the philippines because Sony Ericsson Philippines doesn't abide by the warranty internationally..they only accept warranties that is from the philippines...so sorry for the others mwahahah! ahahaa
This is the best camera phone out there. It beats Nokia N95 when the user knowshow to play with the settings. And when there's update on the firmware. It would beat any 5 megapixels camera out there.
K850i is the best phone on the market today
didn't realize that you already had a k800i. Nice. k850i's imaging IMO is not a huge improvement with current firmware over k800i. I would hold on to your k800i. Or buy k850i and sell k800i, cutting costs significantly.
If you have the money laying around then get it you won't be dissapointed. Like I said a new firmware will improve the image quality. It's a great phone. I just expected more from the camera. Perhaps too much. The longer you wait to get it the more likely its glitches will be worked out and it'll be cheaper. My friends hasn't had a problem yet. He is quite pleased and has had it for a week.
i admit i m one of those die-hard fan of se start from the era of t610, i m currently using k800, hav heard so much bout the much anticipated k850 that i really think that this is definately my next fon. Quite disappointed though bcoz from all the opinions mostly indicate that this fon is below their expectation! So is this fon really that bad? i m really confuse now, shall i buy it?
i have a question about this phone?
does the phone can read word excel..
like document viewer?
Does anybody have a problem with the camera lens?? when i push the button on the side, the lens doesn't open.
My K850 arrives tomorrow and I can't wait!
I know that, officially, this supports up to 4GB but has anyone tried bigger cards (i.e. 6/8GB)?
Any experiences gratefully received!
SE fan i am, but decided to wait for sucessor of k850i. Perhaps will get it if At&t pick it up. Not dropping $550 on it though. Just expected more from this phone's camera. Perhaps new firmware will help, as of now not impressed. Thats not to say it isnt a great phone with a good/great camera. I expected images closer to that of a stand-alone camera. It should dominate the competition, but it doesnt. The camera is the main selling point. I like the design and look. I have handled a friends so I know the construction is solid. UI is good as with all SE's I've had.
It should have been more after waiting so long; internal optical zoom, better sensors, vga recording, better placed light sensors so you dont have to hold it perfectly to take a picture in low-light and explain to ppl how to hold it to take a picture for you.
Samsungs g800's camera is impressive, nice looking phone, but samsungs UI stinks IMO. N95 is too big and overkill for what I need a phone for. Just my 2 cents.
right got mine today from Singapore
Awesome i must say, nice touches such as moving background visuals even if your just on the image broswer, music, calendar etc. Video playback is as fast as the N95's, nice and smooth, nice pictures and the MP3 player is very easy but stylish. The D-pad will take a little getting used to, but the 3 touch sensitive buttons r superb. the motion sensor feature is lovely, although i still don't know how to play the 3d game properly.
1 thing tough, i am not sure how (if) you can use the small camera for taking pictures?
Overall i prefer it from the N95 (which i had over the summer)
and i will be keeping it!
