To Makr or anyone that knows upgrades,
How would one go about updating to R9J005 on the P1i?
The P1i is a wonderfull phone but it is plagued with some bugs i discovered so far after 1 month of purchase
1. The Camera response is very slow and most shots have blur.
2.There is always a noticable green tint in the upper right corner of most pics.
3. The alarm does not sound if the phone is in silent mode -just vibrates if vibration is on- and does not sound at all when the phone is switched off
i am not sure if the last problem is in my phone only or not but i have seen it in 2 other P1is with my colleagues at work.
I hope the upgrade after R9J005 fixes these issues
Yes, upgrading will erase all your user data in your phone.
If you're going to go thru with the upgrade, recommend that you back-up all your data first using the SE pc suite.
Only SE non-smartphones can be upgraded OTA without losing data.
Hope that helps. =)
Yes, it will erase all data from your phone. Before you do a firmware update, backup your phone first using the SE pc suite on your pc. It's recommended to synchronize your contacts, notes, etc.. then backup your user data.
Also, when backing up your phone, it's better that you don't include the third party software or applications coz sometimes they mess up the restore process... I did that, & although i got all my data restored, my restore process got messed up & i had to manually re-install my applications.
But if what you saw in that demo is true, then i would really want to know about it. =) Coz right now, all i know is that updating your phone resets all the user data.
Great phone... no doubt. Been using for a few months already, and no doubt, itz been very, very useful in my classes, outings, gigz etc. ^_^
Highly recommended to anyone who is techie, fun loving, active, and all that.

Would upgrading the firmware clear away all user data I have - messages, accounts, phonebook, et al?
One demo animation on the SE website says that user data is left intact. But would be nice to get a confirmation.
I have installed Fring on my P1, but for some reason, it gives an application error when I tried to make the test call. Have re-installed the software, but that dint fix anything. Haven't tried a Skype call yet. Do let us know if you are successful in using Fring. (Maybe it's my firmware that needs upgrading)
Perfect Business phone packed with all multimedia features. Verdict: Winner.
Please avoid this phone if you have limited knowledge of handling any business phone.
So far so good, and getting better. If only you can select your own language like when you are using internet explorer on a pc, that would be even better. Anyways, anyone using fring?
it looks like a remote control of a tv. kidding aside, its a good & useful phone.
The phone is awesome..only the service providers here are bad. They charge a lot for small services which customers need.
Still i recommedn this phone for all those who want a loads of featurs at a reasonable cost.
For the comment below....
If you don't like the phone then don't buy it. Or if you have it already, then sell it. This phone is not for you, period. Find a more suitable phone for yourself.
Terrible phone, user interfaces too complicated if you do not wish to use the stylus. Turns itself off every time I get in a lift, full of bugs, I used to be a Sony Ericsson fan, not anymore!
Video playback, and recording in cif resolution,30x240 is with 25 fps,and lower resolution make even more fps, over all realy good video,so,something like samsung brand mobiles,u600,d900i....
thats the link to tha san disk website for the 8gb m2 memorey card
Highly recomend this phone to anyone who wants lots of features -and- a nice design. Ive had the phone for a week now and Im very happy with it, imho the best smartphone arround. Feels great and after some getting used to I can type very fast on the qwerty keyboard, but you also have the onscreen keys or handwriting recongnition so you cant complain. Got wifi too so nice and fast in hotspots, and the opera browser is good enough, can go weird on some pages. I also wanted this phone to replace an ipod in my pocket, initially i was quite dissapointed as the video adds show the phone with the decent headset.. this is not the case, they chuck in the cheapo one, but for a £10 you can ebay the SE HPM-82 headset, and WOW what a difference that makes. With the EQ set to Megabass it sounds perfect, deep bass clear sharp trebble, its audio heaven paired with a 4GB M2 card theres not much this phone cant do. To put the cherry on top, it came bundled with the wayfinder GPS, now i admit its quite fiddly and I prob wont really use it but who cares, I think the GPS bundle varies with countries and age of handset so check before you buy.
All in all, N95 and Iphone can go to hell, IIphone is only pretty for girls and has awfull features, and N95 is the polar opposite, its made of cheap nasty plastic feels like a lego model and if you slide it too hard it will implode..
-3.2 MP camera
-QWERTY keyboard + touchscreen with stylus
-MP3 + Video playback (far better with new headset and big card)
-Jog dial ala blackberry makes nav very quick
-Office software, although basic will do the job fine
-Looks hot, and feels really solid
-GPS + Maps(if you get it..)
-Great battery life
-Not so great battery when all features eg. wifi bluetooth are left on
-Comes with crappy headset
-Quite hard to find compatible games
