matt-- From what I know the vendors at greenhills are now required to have a NTC sticker placed inside the housing behind the battery. If this is true it will be difficult to tell if it is brand or recon. It is possible that for 24thsnd the unit you were looking at is a brand new one. However, it can be an overstock of the first batch of P990's that had a number of software issues. For that price I myself would opt for an ASUS P525. Same features minus 3g and qwerty, but the ASUS is a much more stable phone/pda. Not to mention it is A LOT FASTER than the P990. I owned a P990 last year and was quite disappointed with the phone. I have the ASUS now and I am very satisfied. The most complete and reliable smart phone that's on the market. Good luck with whatever you decide.

reaction to the post about New n series...

features as of the combined N-series of nokia will eventually kill it's market profit. after 5 years we'll see nokia's stock market going down rapidly. and it can be it's end... poor nokia=(

reasons:
high price - not all people were gonna choose to have everything because most of the consumers were mid rangers. with this kind of attitude made by nokia, it's gonna be killing it's own market. very impractical imo. though i like it feature packed.

OS capacity not that much. the most reliable and flexible platform as far as mobile phones are concerned was the windows CE platform. windows knew it'll be impossible to attact everything inside a phone as computers can't do that. symbian s60? just a big question regarding the capability of the processor and the OS. it may have every screwing issues for sure.

Hi guys

I am very happy P990 user last few months I have started to unlock the potential of the device, got a 2gb card uploaded some movies and mp3''s to it and its great when im bored at work - well dont tell my boss! Also bought a few items such as a car cradle, new case, spare battery and desk/car charger and the phone is working perfect!

One thing I havent managed to sort out yet is a SatNav application , I have ordered a GPS receiver and that wil be here in the next few days. But i have no suitable application installed? Any suggestions? whats everyone else using of they are using satnav on the lovely p990? I have been on to Nav4all.com and its ok..but i would prefer something more easy to use like TomTom? Now ive heard that TomTom Mobile 6 is not compatitble with UIQ devices is that true? The website says NO but other sites give conflicting info and that it does work! I also dont really fancy paying too much so if anyone can recommend where i can get something suitable I would be very grateful.

Any help would be very much appreciated..thanks in advance!

to matt: the phone you saw for 24k may be brand new, the only way you can check if its recon or refurbished is to check the condition of the phone itself, there is a possiblity that phne may be new but it doesnt have a warranty for SE thus it may not have an NTC sticker on it, if i were you, dont buy it, u may regret it later, rather buy one at a local SE or p990 with 1 yr warranty by sony, gt mine with r7 spftware fo php 29k+++ and it works fine

cheers

I originally bought the P800 and liked everything but the size. The I got the P910i because it was just much more cool and I liked it. Now I have a P990i and I have never owned a worse phone. First issue (not the most important, though) I have a Jabra JX-10 bluetooth headset. These do not work together. Worse issue; the phone frequently sends a busy signal when I try to answer a call. Last week I wanted to make a call and did so. As soon as the phone started ringing the display switched to "Idle" and I did no longer have the option to hang-up or stop calling. I had to wait until the telephone network decided my call was not going to be answered. The telephone regularly forgets to switch the backlight off, thereby draining the battery quickly. I must restart for this porblem to go away. Every once in a while the phone will tell me to replace the main battery ( got the phone in °october. I am no longer able to sync the phone with Outlook. No contacts are updated in the phone. What's more, more often than not, when I place the phone in the deskstand my pc crashes (Win XP) I realize this is probably a bug in the sync software and not the phone. The list goes on and on. Tech support on the SonyEricsson page takes about a week to respond and even then will only respond to one question at a time even though my help requests have consisted of 4-6 issues. The SonyEricsson dealer over here claims not to find anything (thus essentially calling me either a liar or that I imagine these problems) The last visit resulted in a firmware upgrade that fixed nothing. The dreadfully slow device got a little faster, but that was all. This is a terrible device. I intend to attempt to return it and buy me something altogether different. At worst I will throw the phone in the trash. It is utterly unusable.
Regards,
Olafur

Had Phone for several months.
Contacts can crah a lot when filling it out at the start. Couldn't wait for new FIRMWARE

Got the latest Firmware.

So much better now.
Me on O2
17.4 megs available
Phone : R9E
BT : R5A
Organise:R4B
CDa: R5A

Much more slicker.
the old one was so so slow, but I put up with it, cos I knew a major firmware update was coming.
So glad I stuck with it.
Still not as fast as K750i but much better than before.
Almost like a new phone with its new lease of life.
