Hey guys,i was wondering upto what memory will this phone support upto.Do anybody know that? Please help me out.And will it slow the phone down?
Unfortunately, however, there is one major snag with the P990, which is also the reason why Sony Ericsson opted to announce the existence of the device so far in advance of its introduction - slated to take place in the first quarter of 2006. Due to the introduction of a new security framework in Symbian OS 9 none of the existing applications for the P900 series will be compatible with the P990; they will need to be recompiled with support for the security precautions. This should prove a relatively simple task for developers according to Sony Ericsson's claims, but something tells me users will raise eyebrows at having to rely on the mercy of software houses to release upgrades to their applications to be able to use previously bought applications with the P990.

Developer's Guidelines for P990:

To ensure a large proportion of applications are available on the new Symbian and UIQ software platform when the P990 goes on sale, Sony Ericsson has decided to announce the smartphone well in advance of availability so that developers have time to create and certify as many applications as possible.

Benson, et al,
I too contacted www.e-mobileworld.net a week ago, when they listed the SE P990i at $451 (includes shipping worldwide). They said that customers outside NZ have to send payment via Western union. Then a couple of days later they hiked the price to $500.
I am not sure if these guys are for real. Has anyone bought from this vendor? If so, what is your experience?
Also, I see the P990 on eBay. Here again, I am not sure if these guys are for real.
Has anyone actually bought a SE P990i??
Thanks,
Chai
Hi, I read in the UK version of Stuff magazine in it's November issue that the Sony Ericsson P990i will be out in January.
I am a SE P800 owner. I upgraded to an I-mate Jam (similar to O2 Atom). Recently I had to go back to my P800 for a few days and I can tell you that the Atom type phone is much better if you are using the computer. If you want a cool phone, and don't really use the computer side much or don't need to synch a lot of docs, then the P990 should be great. For me, I need a computer first.
This doesn’t look like what we expected.
Looks really great! I had P800 and now I have P910i. I do not think that I will buy this phone. I don’t know what the idea was but this phone looks that it has a smaller display than the others PXXX. And this is because they put the keys directly in the phone. Pity for the clearly evolved software and hardware but I need a smart phone with a big display.
Hi, is the Microsoft Windows Mobile™ 5.0 or Opera™ 8 better as a web browser? What's the difference? Thanks!
I think the closest competitor the P990i, as a palmtop, has now is the O2 XDA Atom. Both has 2 megapixel cameras, MP3, wifi, radio and touchscreen. But the P990i wins over being 3G, having a camera in front. Moreover, P990i should have a better camera with autofocus and better sound quality. But O2 XDA Atom has stereo speakers too. I think N80 is good too with a 3 megapixel camera and image stabilisation for its video recording. However, it doesn't have touchscreen which is good for webpage browsing.
how's e video playback format, pixel resolution n pfs 4 tis fone? N does it playback full screen?
I emailed MobileWorld because they stated on their website that they are selling the P990 for US$500:
Hi, I have a query. The Sony Ericsson P990i is slated for sale in March 2006. May I know why it's possible for you to sell it at US$500 vefore it's official lanuch? I'm interested in the phone so I am curious about it. Thanks!
This is their reply:
The phone is not oficially released yet but many vendors are already selling
it.
We also have the Sony Ericsson P990 in stock already.
Sincerely,
MobileWorld Sales Department

I am not sure if that's true since P990 seems to still be in development. However, if that's true, I would be much pleased, though I don't think I should get my hopes up high because I believe the earliest Sony Ericsson will release this phone is in late January.
